The principal knows how to shape campus culture by facilitating

the development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of

a vision of learning that is shared and supported by the school
community.
I addressed competency 001 by doing a few things. I participated in our district wide
hurricane Harvey relief day where I went door to door to houses that were affected by the
flood to give them snacks and drinks. As one of my projects, I organized our power
reviews session for the Fall semester.
The principal knows how to communicate and collaborate with all
members of the school community, responds to diverse interests
and needs, and mobilizes resources to promote student success.

I addressed competency 002 by helping to organize our shield duty stations this
year for teachers. As part of our safe and civil schools initiative, we assigned
each teacher a specific location near their classroom during the passing period
right before their conference period to do hall duty so the entire school would be
covered.
The principal knows how to act with integrity, fairness, and in an ethical
and legal manner.

I addressed competency 003 by helping out my mentor with discipline issues and tardies. Every
Monday morning I would fill in the APs office and help with discipline and tardies. Dealing with the
discipline I would always do my best to keep the integrity of the student. I would always explain
the situation to them and the consequences that went with their specific situation. If an incident
involved 2 or more people, I would always talk to them separately.
The principal knows how to facilitate the design and implementation of
curricula and strategic plans that enhance teaching and learning; ensure
alignment of curriculum, instruction, resources, and assessment; and
promote the use of varied assessments to measure student performance.

I addressed competency 004 by shadowing my science instructional coach. I helped

conduct science planning sessions with biology, chemistry, and physics teachers to assist
the teachers in lesson development, higher order thinking questions, materials and
assessments.
The principal knows how to advocate, nurture, and sustain an
instructional program and a campus culture that are conducive to student
learning and staff professional growth.

I addressed competency 005 by organizing power review sessions for the entire school. I
organized the timeline of planning, the number of sessions per subject, the sign-up process and
the ticket distribution to the students.
The principal knows how to implement a staff evaluation and development
system to improve the performance of all staff members, select and
implement appropriate models for supervision and staff development, and
apply the legal requirements for personnel management.

I addressed competency 006 by conducting a student and a staff survey after my power review
project. I wanted to get feedback from both students and staff members on their thoughts about
the power review sessions to improve the experience for the students but also how the staff would
do things differently to make the review sessions better.
The principal knows how to apply organizational, decision-making, and
problem solving skills to ensure an effective learning environment.

I addressed competency 007 by creating a paperless tardy form for the school which was one of
my projects. The paperless tardy form allows teachers and administrators to work more efficiently
in dealing with tardies because the form would be all pull down menus. The teacher and
administrator would only have to type in the names of students so it would decrease what needs to
be typed.
The principal knows how to apply principles of effective leadership and
management in relation to campus budgeting, personnel, resource
utilization, financial management, and technology use.

I am weak in the area of School Administration as well in dealing with Competency 008. In my
district the principal is the only one who has access to the budget and makes purchases for the
campus. I have had experience dealing with athletic fund money to purchase supplies for the
athletic program. In order for me to grow I would have to take on a role as a principal.
The principal knows how to apply principles of leadership and
management to the campus physical plant and support systems to ensure
a safe and effective learning environment.

I addressed competency 009 by helping my mentor design a plan for our Safe and Civil Schools
initiative. Since our school mascot is the Spartan, we came up with the idea of what was called
shield duty for our teachers. Shield duty is where all teachers have a specific spot in the school to
do hall duty during the passing period before their conference period starts. I had to come up with
where all 253 teachers in our school had to go during their shield duty.
