RRU
RRU handles modulation and demodulation between
baseband signals and RF signals, data processing, and
combining-distribution. There are two kinds RF Unit,
RRU3004 and RRU3008
RRU3004 can support a maximum of four TRXs.

RRU3008 can support a maximum of eight TRXs.

RRU3004 Module
The RRU3004, a remote radio
unit designed on the basis of
double-transceiver technology,
mainly applies to the small or
medium-capacity sites.

RRU3004 module can support a

maximum of two TRXs.

RRU3004 Functions
The direct modulation technique, which is directly implemented in
the transmit channel, modulates the baseband signals into GSM
RF signals. After being filtered and amplified, the RF signals are
transmitted to the antenna for transmission, through the duplexer
in the RF front-end unit.

The uplink RF signals received from the antenna go through

down-conversion, amplification, analog-to-digital conversion,
matched filtering, Automatic Gain Control (AGC), and then are
DSP for decoding.

Question
If the VSWR is always on, what does it mean? Can you
describe the Impact on the system and the reasons?
It means only ANT_TX/RXA have VSWR Alarm. Once the alarm
is generated, the service carried by the TRX is totally
interrupted.
The reasons list as following:
The VSWR of the antenna system is too high.
The connection between the output port of the TRX and the feeder
is improper.
The antenna system is not in connection for the RRU3004
The RRU3004 is faulty.
Data configuration in BSC is incorrect.

Function of RRU3008
RRU3008 (GSM Remote Radio Filter Unit) is an outdoor
remote RF unit. It processes baseband signals and RF
signals
RRU3008 performs modulation and demodulation between
baseband signals and RF signals, processes data, and
combines and divides signals
One RRU3008 module based on multi-carrier technology
supports eight carriers

Copyright 2009 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. All rights reserved. Page67
Multi-carrier Technology
The principle of multi-carrier technology: multiple carriers share one power
amplifier and one RF channel.
Baseband pool replaced independent baseband unit. Improve the
integration.
Digital IF combination replaced Analog RF combination. There isnt
combination loss.

Basic configuration principle of
RRU3008
One BBU3900 supports the maximum cell configuration of
S24/24/24. It cannot be more than 24TRX for each CPRI
port.

RRU3008 supports a maximum of eight GSM carriers.

RRU3008 supports 2-way TX and 2-way RX.

When RRU3008 support transmit diversity, the TRX it

supports reduce to 4TRX.

One RRU3008 does not serve two cells.
