WHAT IS AI AND WHAT IT CAN DO
Artificial intelligence(AI)is intelligence exhibitedbymachines,rather
thanhumansorotheranimals(natural intelligence,NI).Incomputer
science,thefieldofAIresearchdefinesitselfasthestudyofintelligent
agents":anydevicethatperceivesitsenvironmentandtakesactionsthat
maximizeitschanceofsuccessatsomegoal.Colloquially,theterm
"artificialintelligence"isappliedwhenamachinemimics"cognitive"
functionsthathumansassociatewithotherhumanminds,suchas
"learning"and"problemsolving".
MainlyAIsarereferredtohelppeopleeasethereworkinmanywaysbut
canalsobedangersinmanymay.GivingAItheabilitytothinkforitselfcan
bedisastrous,itmightstarttothinkthathumansareuseless

makeuptheirowncode.Initiallyitlookslikeabsolutegibberish,butitbecameclearthat
themachinesnicknamedBobandAlicewereactuallycommunicatingwithoneanother.
InaFrankensteintwistontheirresearch,therobotabruptlystoppedusingEnglishand
couldonlybeunderstoodbyotherAI.

Itisthoughtthattherobotsweretryingtoresolveproblemstheyhadencounteredbecause
IandtomereflectsproblemsoneAIishavingandtheresponsefromaso-called
negotiatingagent.Althoughsomereportsinsinuatethatthebotshadatthispoint
inventedanewlanguageinordertoeludetheirhumanmasters,abetterexplanationisthat
theneuralnetworksweresimplytryingtomodifyhumanlanguageforthepurposesof
moresuccessfulinteractions-whethertheirapproachworkedornotwasanothermatter

Thismightnotseemasabigproblembutinthenearfutureitcanpotentiallydangerthe
existenceofhumanlives,astheycanevendecidetokillallthehumansforthereown
existence.
