Master
Controls the whole Bus and Protocol
FUNCTIONS
sends Sync Break, Sync Byte
sends ID-Field
receives WakeUp from slave nodes
stable clock necessary
Master/Slave Protocol
Slave
Is one of 2-16 Members on the Bus.
receives or transmits Data when an
appropriate ID is sent by the master.
determines what to do.
sends 2, 4, or 8 Data Bytes and
Check-Byte.

Message Frame
Synch Break:
It is for slaves to detect a message is transmitted on the bus
It consists of at least 13 bits of zeros.
Synch Byte:
Identifier
ID-Field:
Incorporates Information about the sender, the
receiver(s) and the Data field length.
2 Parity Bits protect this highly sensitive ID-
Field.
A total of 64 Message Identifiers are possible.

Easy to use
Components available
Cheaper than CAN and other
communications busses
More reliable vehicles
Extension easy to implement.
Error detection by 8 bits checksum and 2 parity
bits in identifier
CONCLUSION
The LIN protocol for developing networks for
automobile
More flexibility to the network
It is Multiplexed Communication system.
