MTS 2

MTS Modules
RF Distribution System (RFDS)

Preselector
The preselector is a bandpass filter which
only allows the receiver signals to pass.
MTS 4
The filter’s bandwidth is 5 MHz and it is
designed to block transmitter frequencies
as close as 5 MHz from its band edges.
The preselector incorporates a Receiver
Multicoupler (RMC).

MTS 2
MTS Modules
RF Distribution System (RFDS) - continued
Duplexer
The duplexer consists of two bandpass filters, one allows
transmit, the other allows receiver signal to pass. Both
filters have a bandwidth of 5 MHz.
MTS 4
The duplex spacing between transmit and receive
frequencies is 10MHz, with the transmit higher. This
leaves 5MHz spacing between the lowest possible
transmit frequency and the highest possible receive
frequency.
The duplexer incorporates both an RMC and a Digital
Power Meter (DPM).

Post Filter (MTS 4 only)

The post filter supports non-duplexed
configurations. The post filter incorporates
a DPM.

NB MTS 2 does not support non-

duplexed configurations.

Cavity Combiner (MTS 4 only)

There are two types of cavity combiner available:
• Auto Tune Cavity Combiner (ATCC)
• Manual Tune Cavity Combiner (MTCC)
An MTCC is functionally the same as an ATCC
except that it is tuned manually instead of
electronically.
NB MTS 2 does not support Cavity Combiners

Hybrid Combiner

The hybrid combiner combines up to 2

transmitters, and covers a frequency
range of 380 to 433 MHz.

The combiner has no limitations with

respect to channel spacing of the TX
channels.

MTS Modules
TETRA Site Controller (TSC)
The TSC controls resources within the base station,
including assignment of frequencies and slots to
mobile stations.
The TSC incorporates a Global Positioning System
(GPS), which receives signals that are used to
develop high-precision system timing signals.
The TSC communicates with the base radio(s) via
the 10Base2 Ethernet interface. It also
communicates with the network via an X.21 or E1
link.

MTS Modules
Base Radio (BR)
Transceiver
The Transceiver provides the BR's transmission,
receiving, signal processing, and modulation functions.
To do this it incorporates a Base Radio Controller
(BRC), Receiver (RCV) and Exciter (EXC).
The BRC serves as the main controller of the base
radio.
The BRC provides signal processing and operational
control for the other base radio modules.

MTS Modules
Base Radio (BR) - continued
Power Amplifier
The PA, in conjunction with the Exciter, provides the
transmitter functions for the base radio.
The PA accepts the low-level modulated RF signal
from the Exciter and amplifies the signal for
transmission via the RF output connector.
NB The Transceiver and the Power Amplifier are
housed together in one unit

MTS Modules
Power Supply Unit (PSU)
Dependent on its configuration the MTS is
equipped with one or more Power Supply
Unit (PSU).
The power supply unit permits operation
of the MTS in any of the following
configurations:
• DC power supply
Fan tray
• AC power supply
• AC power supply with Backup Battery

Power Supply Unit (PSU) - continued
Fan
Battery Backup tray

The power supply unit (PSU) handles the automatic switchover to a

backup battery in the event of AC power supply failure.
The MTS charges a backup battery during normal AC operation.
A temperature sensor monitors the backup battery’s temperature to
ensure optimum charging.

NB The recommended backup battery is a sealed lead acid (Gel)

battery with -48 VDC nominal.

MTS Modules
Cooling Fans
Fan
One or more fan modules generate an airflow through tray

the MTS cabinets to manage their temperature.

Each module is comprised of two fans.

Revolution of the fans is monitored by a sensor.

In the event of failure, an alarm will be generated.

NB Low power configurations of the MTS 2 can

optionally be operated without cooling fans.
