NUCLEAR ENERGY

by
Fredy Segama Salvatierra
HISTORY
French physicist Henri Becquerel accidentally had an epiphany and discovered
radioactivity in 1896, subsequently he won the novel prize for physic in 1903.
HISTORY
Years later the Italian scientist Enrico Fermi made the first application of this
phenomenon in December 1942 at the University of Chicago in the United
States.
Applications
Talking about application there are a lot, only I will talk three applications
by my perspective are important: in the generation of electric energy,
military weapons and the propulsion.
Generation of Electric Energy
In 1956, England establishes the first nuclear power plant, generating
electricity for commercial use.
Generation of Electric Energy
Today there are a lot, as we can see in the picture.
Generation of Electric Energy
Currently fission nuclear is our technology but this technology is more
dangerous than conventional and renewable energy like hydraulic, wind or
solar energy.
Generation of Electric Energy
For example in 1986 in Ukraine there was an accident, exactly in Chernobyl as
we can see in the picture.
Generation of Electric Energy
Generation of Electric Energy
Accident in Fukushima japan in 2011 triggered by an earthquake and
tsunami.
Generation of Electric Energy
The main problem of the nuclear energy is the radiation; radiation modifies the
structure of the atom all matter, for example produce cancer on the skin and
released in the atmosphere.
Generation of Electric Energy
I would like to highlight in another technology called fusion nuclear is alike the
reaction in the sun, is less dangerous than fission nuclear.
Generation of Electric Energy
The problem for use this technology is the confinement of plasma or micro sun,
is difficult because the temperature is around 150 million degrees Celsius, and is
necessary new innovation, enable this technology there are two possible
solutions for this problem, the first is the Magnetic confinement fusion, uses
magnetic field and the second the Inertial Confinement Fusion, uses laser. As we
can see those devices.
Military Weapons
In the Second World War on August 6, 1945 the U.S. dropped a uranium atomic
bomb (Little Boy) on Hiroshima.
Military Weapons
But the federal government Japanese did not give up, so three days later, on
August 9; the U.S. dropped a plutonium bomb (Fat Man) on the city of
Nagasaki, finally six days after the bombing of Nagasaki, Japan announced its
surrender.
Military Weapons
After the war several countries wanted to build their own bombs, they made
many test, in places suitables, thanks to the corruption of their government
as we can see in the picture, over 2000 tests.
Military Weapons
Military Weapons
Military Weapons
Today North Korea is very dangerous country, because is believed that they have
nuclear weapons as we can see in the picture.
Military Weapons

In the capital of North Korea Pyongyang, the socialist authority Kim Jong-un
doesn’t undertake and reject international conventions on nuclear disarmament.
Nuclear propulsion
Today is more common, for example in the aircraft carriers, submarines, space
exploration as the Voyager spacecraft and maybe in the future in interstellar
travels.
Nuclear propulsion
Nuclear propulsion
Conclusion

In conclusion is controversial to use this technology.

Thanks so much
