Definition of Simple
Schizophrenia
 Simple is defined as "not complicated, elaborate,
dorned, highly developed and unsophisticated,
foolish, artless, ignorant" and a simple life
meaning an attempt to return to more primitive
conditions.
 In simple schizophrenia, the clinical picture is
'unadorned' with obviously psychotic features
like delusions, hallucinations, gross psychomotor
disorder or florid thought disorder.
 The vagrant and withdrawn behavior, self-
neglect and the negative picture suggest a return
to a more 'primitive' existence.

 Simple schizophrenia has perhaps the earliest age
of onset, often first beginning in childhood, and
shows very gradual and insidious progression
over many years.

 Delusions, hallucinations, and loosening of

associations are sparse, and indeed are for the
most part absent. Rather the clinical picture is
dominated by the annihilation of the will,
impoverishment of thought, and flattening of
affect. Gradually over the years these patients
fall away from their former goals and often
become cold and distant with their former
acquaintances.

 They may appear shiftless, and some are accused of
laziness.

 Few thoughts disturb their days, and they may seem

quite content to lie in bed or sit in a darkened room
all day.

 Occasionally some bizarre behavior or a fragmentary

delusion may be observed. For the most part,
however, these patients do little to attract any
attention; some continue to live with aged parents;
others pass from one homeless mission to another.

Dangers of Simple

generally mild, there are risks involved with this
mental disorder.

 One of the biggest dangers of simple

schizophrenia is the risk of developing more
severe signs of a more specific type of

 Also, there are the risks of persons afflicted with

simple schizophrenia doing harm to them self,
although this is not very common.

Treatment for Simple
Schizophrenia
 Biological - Medications such as anxiety relievers and
antidepressants will cause the person to focus on their lives
and get over the problems they are faced with.

 Socio-Cultural - People should talk to others who suffer

from the disorder and also talk to counselors so that they
can be in a more friendly and hospitable environment.

 Cognitive - People need to be instructed about how to cope

and recognize the disorder that they have. If they make a
conscious thought about it, then they are already working
to make it better.
