Nanotechnology
● Nanotechnology / Nanoscience Uses

● Nanoscience
― Still not a mature technology
― Study of the performance of ultra-small
structures, materials, and devices,
usually 0.1 to 100 nm.
― Nanoscale: Scale of 100 nanometers or less
How it Started?
Drug Delivery
● Definition
— The proper administration of drugs using several ways
for improving health.
— The practice of drug delivery has changed dramatically in
the past few decades and even greater changes are
anticipated in the near future.
— The use of nanotechnology in medicine and more
specifically drug delivery is set to spread rapidly.
— Pharmaceutical sciences are using nanoparticles to specific
or targeted drug delivery and reduce toxicity and side
effects of drugs.
Drug Delivery with Nanoparticles

Definition:
— Engineered technology for the targeted delivery
and/or controlled release of therapeutic agents.
Nanoparticles for Drug
Delivery

● Metal-based nanoparticles

● Lipid-based nanoparticles

● Polymer-based nanoparticles

● Biological nanoparticles
