American Business in

the 1920s
Andrew P., Beau S.
US Auto Industry 1920-1924
In 1920, the popular Ford Model T saw the
sale of 8 million cars in America. By 1929,
the total number of registered drivers rose
to 23 million. The demand for rubber and
oil skyrocketed, and gas stations,
mechanics, motels and even roadside
diners began dotting the landscape. This
new freedom of transportation saw many
traveling further for vacation, and made
middle-class workers able to drive to work.

Route 66 was created long before cars and incorporated southwestern territories

from Mexico after the 1846-1848 War. Established in 1926, road signs started to

be erected on “The Mother Road” covering 2,448 square miles of highway from

Chicago to Los Angeles. - Beau Stone

launched, with it becoming regular in
1924. In 1924, the first round-the-
world flight by the douglas world

the airline industry.

and new Engines are developed. In

the US navy. In 27, at the Ford

created, and by 29, passenger
terminals became readily available.
This changed the way people
traveled long-distance forever, and
creates what would become a 600
Billion dollar industry today.

Business policies of President Coolidge and Herbert
Hoover (installment plans)- Beau Stone
President Herbert Hoover had a strong belonging to Laissez-Faire, in the sense
that he wanted the people to kinda control what goes on. When he found out that
the Depression was going on he did not interfere with it in which it soon became “
The Great Depression”. To fight the depression Hoover expanded on: Federal
Spending, Agriculture, immigration, international trade, and tax policy
Business policy 2.00 Beau Stone
For Coolidge it was somewhat similar in the Laissez- faire perspective but with
some difference. He believed in government economy, reduced taxation, and
gave aid to private business without accompanying restrictive regulation.
