6. Different Automotive systems
• Cooling System
• Lubrication System
• Transmission System
• Steering System
• Braking system

10
Cooling System
• Removes excess heat from the engine
• Maintains efficient engine temperature
• Water cooling system in Hyundai Vehicles
• Driven by a Centrifugal pump
• Forced circulation system

11
Fig: Cooling system
12
Lubrication System
• Reduces friction in Reciprocating parts
• Provides proper sealing action
• Keeps the engine clean by removing dirt or carbon compounds
from inside of the engine
• Absorbs excess heat generated from cylinder and bearings
• Wet sump lubrication system

13
Transmission system
• Controls speed and torque of the drive wheels according to
driving conditions
• Maintains higher torque and low speed during ascent and vice-
versa
• Front Wheel Drive in most of the vehicles
• Four Wheel Drive in Tucson and Santa fe

14
Fig: Transmission system
15
Braking System
• Inhibits motion of moving vehicle by means of friction
• Uses hydraulic system to magnify force from brake pedal which
then uses brake pad or brake shoe to reduce the speed of rotor
• Front wheel disc brake and Rear wheel drum brake in most of
the Hyundai vehicle

16
Disc
brake

17
Steering System
• Controls the orientation of the drive wheels
• Achieved by series of rods, linkage and gears
• Uses assisted means in modern vehicles
• Mainly of two types
• Hydraulic Power Assisted Steering (HPAS) and Electric Power
Assisted Steering (EPAS)
