MITIGATION:

On the various disasters we, can narrow down to

the most doable mitigation activities:

NATURAL DISATERS
1. METEOROLOGICAL
a. Typhoon (Cyclone, Hurricane)
b. Storm Surge
c. Tornado
d. Floods such, flash floods & long
duration floods
e. Land slides such as Mud slides &
Rock slides
Typhoons and ITZ bring floods (flash
floods & long duration floods), land
slides, mud slides, rock slides, storm
surge, big coastal waves, and other
unwanted destructions.

Civil Engineers can plan design

construct and maintain structures as
countermeasures.
Large Earthquakes can cause ground
vibrations that will result to Structure
Collapse, Soil Liquefaction, Large
Ground Displacement and other
phenomena of disasters.

Due to lessons learnt from past

earthquakes, Civil Engineers
incorporate mitigation measures into
the planning, designing, constructing
such structures and retrofitting
existing structures.
Strife is part of man’s natural
character. War is the result of strife.
At present, rebellion and terrorism
and other forms of strife is in our
society.

Too, mitigation measures is now

available to reduce the destruction.
Environmental disaster is the result
of man’s activities. There are now
available technologies to prevent,
avert and/or mitigated this type of
disaster. Climate Change disrupting
the Ecological Balance, uncontrollable
Liquid Waste and Solid Waste
discharges are also man made hence
could be remedied.
