Although it is a worlds largest
biometric system it also has some pros and
cons, which are discussed below
Pros:-
1. Jan Dhan Yojana: The Guinness world record holder
scheme Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY)
accepts Aadhar card/number as the only
document sufficient to open the bank account. The
benefits offered are RuPay card, free zero balance
savings account, life and accident insurance and
many others
2. Passport in 10 days: This benefit of Aadhar card will
relieve you the most! If you have an Aadhar card,
you can get passport in just 10 days. Also under the
new government’s rule, if you need a passport,
Aadhar number is compulsory
3.Digital Locker: Government of India has launched digital
locker (Digi Locker) system for everyone for storing all personal
document on the government’s server which is linked with
aadhar.
4.Voter Card Linking: From 9th March 2015, The government
made it compulsory for voters to link their Aadhar card UIDAI
number with voter ID’s. This action is taken to eliminate bogus
voters. Once an Aadhar number is linked, it would become
impossible for an multiple voter ID card holder to make it’s
illegal use.
5. Opening new bank account: Aadhar letter provided by
UIDAI is now acceptable by banks as a valid proof to open
bank account. In fact, it can serve as an address proof.
Cons:-
1. Centralization Power Problems:-
Aadhar card is managed and operated by the
Supreme Authority of the country, which can lead to
several centralization problems. As the Government is
free to manipulate and create new unorthodox rules
which can create issues for the population.
2. Misuse of Bank Details:-
As Government demands Indian citizens to link their
bank accounts with the aadhar card, it can lead to
some serious problem, if users bank details are leaked
or misused in any way.
3. Compromising Citizens Right to Privacy:-
Aadhar holds bio-metric data and residential
information of each individual in the country. Now
as per government rules, this information is linked
with users all banks, voter Id, PAN card etc.
4. Foreign Handling:-
Aadhar Project managed by foreign private
companies. This project was initially introduced by
these companies for the development and
research study. However they are still involved in
handling all the data and information of Indian
citizens, which they can use for anything .
