• Wealthy land owners • Free from slavery but have little rights
• Counsel members, senators, and judges
• Could own small shops and farms

• Could Veto Laws • Slaves
• Plebians • No rights
• Ordinary citizens, but could marry patricians • Worked in mines and farms and built roads
• One common job was a shopkeeper
• Could pay to get out of slavery, but took a
