Rabeprazole can work more rapidly separates the stomach acid and also more quickly convert it to the active species to help gastric mucin synthesis.
Rabeprazole is known as a gastric acid pump inhibitor. It
does not have anticholinergic or histamine H2‑receptor antagonist properties, and is acid‑labile. Once Rabeprazole has left the stomach, absorption occurs within 1 hour of administration. PURPOSE This study is an attempt to formulate Rabeprazole as sustained release matrix tablet for extending its release rate for prolong period of time thus increasing the bioavailability DISCUSSION Rabeprazole is acid labile and hence commonly formulated as an enteric coated tablet In the present study an attempt was made to formulate and evaluate Rabeprazole tablet release matrix using wet granulation technique by combining ingredients like HPMC-E15, Carbopol934, and sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), so it can be evaluated or known the physicochemical properties like rheological properties, wight variation, thickness, hardness ,% friability and drug content. The most employed method to modulate the sustained drug release is to include it in a matrix system.
Hydrophilic polymers have become product of choice
as an important ingredient for formulating sustained release formulations of highly water soluble drugs.
Sustained release matrix tablets prepared by wet
granulation technique using microcrystalline ethyl cellulose polymer and Bees wax showed good sustaining drug release concluding that sustained release tablet could be successfully combined with accurate control and prolongation of the drug release CONCLUSION Rabeprazole matrix tablet extends the release rate of drug for a prolong period of time at least 10 hrs and shows to increase the bioavailability and simultaneously decrease the dosing interval as well as dosing amount. The formulation minimizes dose related adverse effects and cost and ultimately improve the patient compliance and drug efficiency.
