Triats
Traits of a good listener
listen.
They pay attention to the person who is speaking.
They keep eye contact.
They show interest by nodding or by smiling at appropriate times.
They make sure that they understand what has been said by
repeating it in their own words. For example, a good listener
might say, "Do you mean that ...?"
They let the other person finish his or her thoughts without
interrupting.
They ask questions if anything is not clear when the speaker has
finished.
Bad
Listener
Characteristics A bad listener-
is easily distracted--fights distractions
of Bad Listener daydreams--makes an effort to focus
fakes attention--uses body language to
show attention
tunes out dry subjects --considers the
facts and data and asks, “What’s in this
for me?”
tunes out if delivery is poor--judges
content over delivery
tends to challenge the speaker--interrupts
only to clarify; gives speaker a chance
asks no questions finds something in the
content to engage with
To become a better listener try following:

1. Eliminate the distractions.

2. Ask questions before you respond

3. Focus on giving support, not just solutions.

4. Speak in paragraphs, not “tweets”

5. Respond nonverbally while he/she is speaking.
