Frank also delivered one album for Steve Vai's record company, Favored Nations,
called "Coming To Your Senses," one of his strongest albums ever.
"I recently did some recording with Chick Corea where we
used the Hot British to record direct. As skeptical as I am

having a distortion pedal with so much firepower is an almost
giddy joy, and the Plexitube's ballsy tones and versatile
tweakability earn it an Editor's Pick Award.

● 2-channel bass pre for 1 or 2 basses
● Built-in direct box with XLR output
● Combination power boost and effects loop
● Powerful EQ and contour controls
● Separate always-on tuner output
Effects loop & power booster lets you introduce effects and gives you that extra kick when

Separately buffered tuner out that lets you monitor and tune on the fly.
- 11 -
Specifications in brief
Channel-2 three-band EQ
The Bassbone allows switching instruments without having to re-adjust tone & volume at the amp.
Also included is a power-booster with variable gain and a switchable outboard effect loop which can be used
individually or together. For example: introduce a flanger with boost for soloing.
Balanced output sends the signal to a mixer with all your sound settings (level, EQ, effect loop), eliminating
the need to carry a bass amplifier to coffee house gigs. There's even a bass-friendly tuner out!
- 12 -
The Bassbone is extremely powerful, yet simple to
operate.
Two instrument inputs and two separate signal
channels with separate level and EQ sections for
each. Output can go to an amp, mixer or both. Effects
and boost can be brought in or out with the press of a
footswitch.
The Bassbone is not limited to bass either. It works
great with guitars, mandolins, dobros, banjos and
other acoustic and electric instruments.
When using only one instrument, connecting to input-1 will still allow the use of all of channel-2's
benefits and features with one press of the 'toggle' footswitch.
The Radial Bassbone comes equipped with a special 15-Volt power supply that provides
greater headroom than typical 9V supplies.
Built-in Radial direct box is equipped with a separate XLR male output to feed a mixer.
The XLR output of the Bassbone is post-everything. This means that all of the Bassbone EQ
and volume settings will be heard on the XLR output.

"When I can't take a big custom switching rack on the road; I've always had troubles with
varying outputs. Enter the Bassbone - exit the problem. I have found the Bassbone
indispensable for my small and medium touring rig. It evens the outputs of bass and
Stick, gives me boost capabilities when I need it and holds up solidly through the wear
and tear of one nighters. I've just come back from Europe and Russia, where the device
held up to the real world of touring, rough treatment and varying voltages. The
Bassbone was there doing it's job for me every night - my sound engineer is
ecstatic!"

Justin Meldal-Johnsen
(Beck, Garbage, Tory Amos, Macy Gray, Imarobot)
www.justinmj.com
Justin first picked up the bass at age 12 and was soon playing in local LA
garage bands. By '92, Justin was recording with seminal L.A. hip hop/jazz group
Circle of Power and then touring with Gang of Four bassist Dave Allen's 'The
Elastic Purejoy' band. In '95, Justin got the call from Tori Amos to play on her
'Hey Jupiter' EP. Later, budding nuveau-pop cultural icon Beck asked Justin to
come by a rehearsal 'to jam', which turned out to be a 6-year-and-counting gig
as music director and conceptual co-conspirator. Justin has worked with such
diverse acts as Garbage, Air, Macy Gray, Blinker the Star, Jamiroquai,
Moby, Sasha & BT, The Pulsars, On, Electric Company, Amnesia, Jude,
Pet, Bill White Acre, Nelly Furtado, the Dixie Chicks and many others.
"Finally, a bass-oriented switcher and DI with good tone and lots of flexibility. My
sound man used to go crazy compensating for level and EQ differences between my
basses. But now he's in heaven. What a gem this thing is. Nice job guys!" ~ Justin

BASS PLAYER magazine (Feb 2004 - pg. 68)
'Radial Tonebone Bassbone‘ By Eric Murray
"The Bassbone is much more than a straightforward A/B box ... the DI, which
inherits technology from Radial's renowned line of standalone direct
boxes, sounded thick and warm in my home studio. The potent EQ was a
great tone sculptor particularly with passive or frettless
instruments..." ... "The Bassbone offers an extraordinarily useful
combination of features for a modest price" ... Anyone who uses more
then one bass at a gig ought to check this out. It could easily become
standard gear for many performing bassists.

● AB-Y switcher – Class-A for exceptional audio
● Noiseless photocell switching between amplifiers
● Exclusive Drag™ control pickup load correction
● Built-in Power Boost circuit with mid control
● Transformer isolated to eliminate ground loops
The Switchbone employs Class-A circuitry for exceptional audio performance. Our unique Drag™
control provides load correction to re-introduce the natural relationship between the amp and
guitar pickup that is invariably lost when the guitar is buffered or split to drive two amps. To
eliminate hum and buzz caused by ground loops, the Switchbone’s second output is transformer
equipped for 100% isolation. A 180º polarity reverse switch keeps both amps in phase.
Radial's acclaimed VariBoost™ power booster gives you complete foot-switchable control over
boost gain and mid boost for soloing. The innovative ‘ToggleMode™’ footswitch with large
flashing LED's simplifies switching and eliminates tap dancing. The tuner output is always on for
quick tune-ups and buffered to keep your signal path clean.
- 17 -
Specifications in brief:
Circuit type: Class-A primary audio circuit
Mid-boost: +9 dB @ 800 Hz
+5 dB @ 1 kHz
Look inside the switchbone and you will be amazed at all the circuitry actually required to give the Switchbone it's functionality and
make it work as well as it does – Switchbone is truly an engineering marvel!
- 18 -
Setting up is easy – the two Switchbone amplifier outputs,
Out-1 and Out-2, connect directly to each amp 's instrument
inputs:
Out-1 is direct coupled and Out-2 is transformer isolated.
Use the isolated output if you have an old amp with no
ground lug on it's AC cord.
The Switchbone's ground lift switch can come in handy to
eliminate hum or buzz that may be present due to a ground
differential between the two amps.

Allan Holdsworth (Soft Machine, King Crimson, Guitar Player mag. hall of fame)
"The Radial Switchbone sounds great! It is the best ABY box that
I have used and the transformer isolation makes it easy to combine
any two amps without noise.“ ~ Allan Holdsworth

● Master control for pedal boards
● 2 separate effects loops + SlingShot™ remote
● Exclusive Drag™ control pickup load correction
● Built-in VariBoost™ variable gain power boost
● Class-A circuit for highest quality audio
- 22 -
Specifications in brief:
The Radial Loopbone combines several innovative features into one rugged, compact unit
that easily fits on a pedalboard. Controls and switches have been optimized for maximum
flexibility and ease of use while eliminating unnecessary clutter on stage.
- 23 -
Radial's design philosophy acknowledges that for a
device to be useful, it should be easy to use – even if the
internal workings are complex. The Loopbone is a good
example of how this doctrine can be implemented by
reducing the number switches and clutter to an absolute
minimum.
Plug in your guitar, amp and effects and you are ready to go. The LED indicators will
show you the currently selected FX loop(s), and the Boost circuit status – on or off.
The front panel Drag™ control potentiometer adjusts to exactly match the pickup load
you would get if your guitar was plugged directly into your amp.
The VariBoost™ gain can be pre-adjusted to give you zero to +15dB of boost when you
step on the footswitch.
