Background
In Dhaka and other industrial centers in Bangladesh, rapid and unplanned
growth of the industrial sector is imposing increasing stresses on the
environment. In terms of water the very real impacts of these pressures include
declining groundwater levels and deteriorating river water quality.

Different chemical industries are heavily dependent on the water environment.

To date, the sectors have failed to manage water in a sustainable way; rather it
has been viewed as an unlimited resource. This sectorial view has been
compounded by poor governance and regulation. Sustaining and meeting
future growth aspirations will require a new approach to managing the
emerging water quality and availability risks.

This report is designed to show the industrial area belongs in Shyampur union,
effluent produced and there adverse effect on surface water, the pathway to
reduce the risk level of the effluent.
Objective

 To show the surface water quality of Shyampur union in Dhaka

city.

 To analyze the impact of industrialization on surface water

security and environment.
Methodology

Possible Outcomes

 Find the water quality of different surface water sources in

Shympur union

 Justify the surface water from different sources to fulfill the

drinking water criteria

 Get a clear view of the impact on environment

 Identify the future risks

Social Benefits

Establish relationship between health problems and surface

water quality.

Emphasize the local authorities on proper Industrial Waste

management.

Create awareness among public.

Finally an analysis of the opportunities in improving water use

and effluent treatment in order to support more sustainable
growth.
