Eric Arthur Blair better known by his pen
name George Orwell, was an English novelist,
essayist, journalist, and critic. Hs ork is
famed His work is marked by lucid prose,
awareness of social injustice, opposition
to totalitarism, and outspoken support
of democratic socialism

George Orwell had multiple professions, most of which were associated with

4.WHEN WAS THIS?
Being considered one of the greatest
authors of the 20th century, he
published his first novel 'Down and Out
in Paris and London' in 1933. The novels
he was best known for such as 'Animal
Farm' was published in 1945 along
with 'Nineteen Eighty Four' which was
published 4 years later. His novel
'Nineteen Eighty Four' was also the last
novel he published a year before his
death.
5.WHERE DID THIS TAKE
PLACE?
Even though he was born in India, he
spent and wrote most of his novels in
London. After staying in Paris for a
short period of time, he returned to
London and published ‘Down and out
in Paris and London’. In 1936, he
moved to Spain and wrote 'Homage
to Catalina'. A little while after, he
left for Morocco and published
'Coming up for Air'.
6.Why did George Orwell choose to write about
specific topics (social injustice)?

The topics George Orwell wrote about


were mostly related to or influenced
by his personal views, particularly on
the social situation. Evidently, his
work displayed his dislike for
imperialism, nationalism, capitalism,
political dishonesty, power,
totalitarianism, privilege and private
education. Also, although there were
two main social classes during his time
(upper/rich and lower/powerless) he
recognized and described himself as
"lower-upper-middle class".

9.DEATH
George Orwell's health
continuously deteriorated after
being diagnosed of tuberculosis in
1947. In 1950, he finally died of
tuberculosis, just 1 year after
marrying his second wife.
