TAU SAGITTARII

BY ADAM CRUTTENDEN AND ALEX CULBERTSON

INFORMATION ON TAU SAGITTARII

The surface temperature is 4,860 Ks which is cooler than the sun but, This orange/red giant is larger than
the sun
The mass is 1.75 solar mass
The mass above is about 332946 times the mass of Earth The Radius is 6.91 million miles which is 11.13
million Km
Is 122 light years from earth
SAGITTARIUS: CONSTELLATION

• The star Tau Sagittarii is part of the constellation Sagittarius. This constellation is one of the constellations of
the zodiac.
• As seen from the northern hemisphere, the constellation's brighter stars form an easily recognizable asterism
known as 'the Teapot‘
• Marking the bottom of the teapot's "handle" (or the shoulder area of the archer, are the bright star (2.59
magnitude) Zeta Sagittarii (ζ Sgr), named Ascella, and the fainter Tau Sagittarii (τ Sgr).
• The constellation as a whole is often depicted as having the rough appearance of a stick-figure archer drawing
its bow, with the fainter stars providing the outline of the horse's body. Sagittarius famously points its arrow at
the heart of Scorpius, represented by the reddish star Antares, as the two constellations race around the sky.
Following the direct line formed by Delta Sagittarii (δ Sgr) and Gamma2 Sagittarii (γ2 Sgr) leads nearly directly
to Antares. Fittingly, Sagittarii is Alnasl, the Arabic word for "arrowhead", and Delta Sagittarii is called Kaus
Media, the "center of the bow," from which the arrow protrudes. Kaus Media bisects Lambda Sagittarii (λ Sgr)
and Epsilon Sagittarii (ε Sgr), whose names Kaus Borealis and Kaus Australis refer to the northern and
southern portions of the bow, respectively.
SAGITTARIUS: ZODIAC SIGN

• Sagittarius is the ninth astrological sign, which is associated with the constellation Sagittarius and spans
240–270th degrees of the zodiac. Under the tropical zodiac, sun transits this sign between November
23 and December 21. The symbol of the archer is based on the centaur Chiron, who mentored Achilles
in archery.
• Sagittarius, the ninth sign of the zodiac, is the home of the wanderers of the zodiac. It's not a mindless
ramble for these folks, either. Sagittarians are truth-seekers, and the best way for them to do this is to
hit the road, talk to others and get some answers. Knowledge is key to these folks, since it fuels their
broad-minded approach to life. The Sagittarian-born are keenly interested in philosophy and religion,
and they find that these disciplines aid their internal quest. At the end of the day, what Sagittarius
wants most is to know the meaning of life, and to accomplish this while feeling free and easy.
TAU SAGITTARII

• . The stellar envelope is slightly cooler than the Sun, with an effective temperature of 4,459 giving the
star a light orange color. The interferometry-measured angular diameter of this star, after correcting for
limb darkening, is 3.93 ± 0.04 mas, which, at its estimated distance, equates to a physical radius of
about 16 times the radius of the Sun
• Sagittarii is a red clump giant, a star with similar mass to the sun which has exhausted its core hydrogen,
passed through the red giant branch, and started helium fusion in its core
• Tau Sagittarii is the closest visible star in the night sky to the origin of the 1977
• It is 122 light years away
INFO
• The use of Tau Sagittarii is first to create the constellation Sagittarius, and second to be a star and help
discover more about stars. Also to light up the night.
• We couldn’t find who founded Tau Sagittarii but, It was first officially founded in the 1970s, but was
used as a part of the constellation for hundreds of years before
• Tau Sagittarii was used to find more about stars and the sun since it and the sun are so much alike.
• This is a spectral type K1 giant star
• Like the sun Tau sagittarii’s spectrum is very alike
TAU SAGITTARII SPECTRUM

Tau sagittarii’s spectrum is exactly like the suns

because they are both stars.
