How did the Effects of WWI

lead to WWII?
Learning Objectives:
• All of you will be able to explain how the
three major powers felt at the end of WW1
• Most of you will be able to create a
detailed mind map to link the problems
and solutions
• Some of you will create solutions to the
problems caused by WW1
Citizenship:
To understand strategies for dealing with
conflicts.
Problems problems...
• On your post-it notes, write down any
problems you can think of that were caused
by WW1. Stick them on the lockers at the
back of the room...
Problem 1
• The war had brought massive
destruction, especially to building
and farming land in France
Problem 2
• Nationalist groups were keener
than ever to rule themselves and
be free from the empires which
had controlled them.
Problem 3
• Communists had taken over in
Russia in 1917. Their ideas were
spreading to other countries that
had suffered greatly in the war.
Communists believed that the
poor should rise up and take
power from the rich. The people
in power were scared!
Communism
• A political belief that everyone is equal and
everything is owned by the people.

• Capitalism – class society where

businesses are privately owned and there
are rich and poor people
Problem 4
• The First World War had cost
twenty million lives. The world
had never seen a war like it. How
could future wars be prevented?
Woodrow Wilson: The Idealist
Wilson had a dream about
a better world. In
January 1918, before
war had ended, he came
up with a 14 point plan
to create this world.
Fill in the table and see if
you agree with his
dream!

Prediction

Problems I predict for making the

Treaty of Versailles are……
 Your task

First of all, you need to meet with the other

representatives of your country. You only have 3
minutes to do this. In that 3 minutes, you need to
make sure you are all clear on what you want to
gain from the Treaty.
What does your country want from the Treaty?

Three Minute Countdown Tuesday, 24 April 2018

You now need to move back to
meet the representatives of the
other great powers.
You need to discuss what you hope
to gain, and complete the table to
summarise the main points. You will
have 3 minutes per representative.
