Solution Procedure

Modeling procedure
• Mass , Momentum and energy are solved for
each component with variables such as Mass
flow rate and etc.
• Conservation of Mass : dM_v/ dt= W_in-
W_out
• Conservation of Energy:
(dM_v/dt).u+M_v(du/dt)-Q=Win*hin-
Wout*hout+PW_abs . (Q is the heat absorbed
and PW_abs is the power absorbed)
• Conservation of Energy:
Summation(Win*Cin+Ain*Psin)+Fx=
(Wout*Cout+Aout*Psout)
Automatic user controlled factor limiting the
magnitude of steps.
But Technically this isn’t 0-D modeling as this
takes length into account.
• Again to improve the speed for 10Hz
modeling Just Conservation of Mass is needed
DP
Off-Design
• Four State variables and Four error variables
are found namely Inlet corrected mass flow,
Rotor speed, Compressor map Beta, Similarly
for Beta turbine.
• Mass flow rate error, Power balance,
Conservation of mass in turbine and
Conservation of mass in Nozzle.
Algorithm for OD (user can’t define variables)
Another procedure
• Guess Compressor aerodynamic speed, Beta-line
and Fuel Air Ratio (FAR)
• Find the inlet and ambient conditions from the
Altitude and mach number
• Compute the compressor outlet conditions from
compressor speed and Beta
• Combustor Calculations from Fuel Air Ratio
• In steady state, Turbine = Compressor similary
find delta T=W*Cp*Delta T comp/ W*Cp and
then the Turbine exit conditions
• Then perform nozzle conditions.
• Three main matching conditions are
 Calculated power level and Required Power level
Turbine characteristics and
Nozzle characteristics.
Numerical method
• Newton Raphson used in error minimization
procedure
(S)i+1= (S)i- f(J^-1)E
F= 0.9(user controlled factor limiting the magnitude
of error)
Here J^-1 isn’t calculated every time but only when
the solution diverges.
J(i,j)= delta e_i/ delta s_j
