Exception

Have and think have other meanings, and in these cases you can
use the Present Continuous/Progressive if you are referring to
something that is happening now.
Ex: Boris is having problems with his weight, and look at him, he is
having another velvet cake with his creamy coffee. He's out of
his mind.

For an activity that has recently stopped or just stopped, and there is a
connection with now.
Ex: We are out of vegetables. Hasn’t aunty been going shopping yet?
(Aunty is still not going shopping for the vegetables)
We often use the present perfect continuous in this way, especially with how long,
for…and since…. . the activity is still happening (as in this example) or has just
stopped.
Ex: How long have you been waiting there? (you are still waiting there)
You can use the present perfect continuous for actions repeated over a period of
time.
Ex: a. Marsha is a very good softballer. She’s been playing since she was eight.
b. Every afternoon they meet in the same mall. They’ve been gathering
there for years.
Ex: Ann’s clothes are covered in paint. She has painted the ceiling. The ceiling was
white. Now, it is blue.
Ex: Ann’s clothes are covered in paint. She has been painting the ceiling.
Ex:
How many pages of that research have you finished?
Mary has typed ten emails today.
They’ve attended the church three times this week.
We use perfect continuous to ask or say HOW LONG (for an activity that is STILL
HAPPENING)
Ex:
How long have you been conducting that research?
Mary is still reading the book. She’s been reading it all day.
