What is a literary
folio?
A Literary folio is a published original
creative work by new and established
authors.
Literary Folio is a journal of poetry,
fiction, and creative non-fiction. It also
includes essays, short stories, and short
plays.
What are the
contents of a literary
folio?
Cover
The outer part of the book.
Preface
An introduction at the beginning
which explains what the book is
about or why it was written.
Table of contents
Contains the content of the book
and the corresponding page numbers.
Body
Contains the main part of the folio
which includes poems, essays, short
stories, short plays, scripts and
pictures or drawings.
Acknowledgement
Contains the author/s
message of gratitude to
people who had helped them
in writing the book.
Poem-a piece of writing in which
words are chosen for their beauty
and are carefully arranged, often in
short lines with rhymes.
Essay- a short piece on one
particular subject.
Play- a piece of writing which is
performed in a theater or television.
Script- written version of play.
Short story- a written story about
imaginary events that is only a few
pages long.
Fiction- stories about imaginary
people and events.
Prose- opposite of poetry.
Ordinary written language such
as essays, novel, short story and
narrative.
What should be
considered in making a
literary folio?
1. A Literary folio should have a theme.
What is a theme?
Theme is the main subject that is being
discussed or described in a piece of writing.
The theme should be obvious to the
readers. All the written works should be
relevant to the theme.
2. The cover and title should be
appealing.
Cover of the folio is virtually
appealing. It is dynamic and
draws one into its pages through
its illustrations and cover lines.
3. Magazine layout should be easy to
follow so that finding information is
simple and quick. Page numbers are
visible and there are no extended
page sections that makes finding
page numbers difficult. It should
attract the attention of the readers.
4. The literary works presented such
as poem should use figurative
language, imagery and symbols.
Writers used vivid words and phrases
that linger or draw pictures in
reader’s minds and the placement of
words should be accurate, natural
and not forced.

You are a member of Asian literary society’s
committee for the literary folio. You are tasks
to make a prototype page which features an
existing literary text focusing on the theme,”
Changing Perspectives”.
Each of you should create a literary folio with
that theme. Group leaders could divide the
parts to their members and assign who will
create the cover, poetry, essay and short story.
