Support Services-
• Support Services in terms of health care refers to the access of
patients and residents have access to a broad variety of health
services.
• Health Professionals from a variety of backgrounds work
together to provide these services to better our patient’s and
resident’s health and well being.
House Keeping Services-
• House Keeping Services are those services which are essential to
keep the hospital running in a proper manner so that it is able to
fulfill the needs of the patient as well as of residents.
• It mainly includes assistance to health care workers,sanitation
services etc.
 Need Of House Keeping
Services
• To impart hygienic environment to the patient as well as
resident.
• To meet expectations of the community.
• To maintain a standard in terms of quality.
• To prevent the patient as well as residents from the
nosocomial infections.
Essentials For House Keeping
Services
It mainly requires following-
• Appropriate storage space in the patient-care areas to keep
day-to-day sanitation material as well as to keep used
implements.
• Stores in different areas to keep bulk sanitation material as
well as machines.
• Machinery to remove biomedical waste/garbage from
different areas of the hospital to the final disposal site.
• Lockers should be provided to the workers in different work
areas.
• Administrative area should also be catered to in the planning
itself.

• Out sourcing of house keeping services
In House Services-
• It includes the staff which are employed by the hospital on regular
basis.
• These services are managed by the hospital sanitation staff.
Out sourcing Of House Keeping Services-
• These are the services which are provided on the contract basis.
• There hiring is based on the quality of the work they do or their
market value.
 Challenges in Improvement
Of Support Services
The scope of improvement is reduced or ceased due to
following reasons-
• Low Priority Activity due to poor administration.
• Overcrowding requires more no. of persons than hired.
• Financial Constraints which play a basic role in acquiring any
service.
• Lack of awareness that is the goal of complete cleanliness
cannot be achieve alone we all have to work to get clean and
hygienic surroundings.
Criteria For Staffing In House
Keeping Services
Following parameters are kept in mind while staffing of
housekeeping staff-
• Architectural Design
• Cleaning Requirement as per repetitive cycles in 6hrs,8hrs etc.
• Type of service required
• Transport of biological waste management
• Manpower required as per the increase in the number of
patients.
 Scope Of Improvement
There is a scope of improvement in the scenario of support
services in the hospital in terms of quality that is the rise in
the standards of the hospital because of employment of
skilled staff which requires less training to work as per the
code of conduct for running the hospital in a systematic way.
The awareness among the people and proper functioning of
the concerned authorities governing the particular hospital
can play a big role in changing the scenario of the services
provided.
