GASIFICATION

Gasification is a thermo chemical process that converts

carbonaceous materials into Syngas (CO & H2 & CH4) by
reactions with steam and air or oxygen.

Gasification is a route to convert wide variety of feed stocks

to chemicals, fertilizer, liquid fuel and power.
Gasification in India: Challenges

 High ash content of Indian coals

 High ash fusion temperature
 Non availability of suitable matured technology
 Operational issues like agglomeration, entrainment, etc
 Emission of tar, phenol in the Fixed Bed gasifier
 High water requirement
 Lack of operational experience
 High/uncertain O&M cost
 High technological risks
