Arequipa “White city”

 Arequipa is a city in the Southern


Coastal region of Peru. It’s surrounded
by three impressive volcanoes
 It’s Peru's second largest city.
 It's Peru's second most important city
(after Lima), and the second most
popular among tourists (after Cuzco).
How To Get To Arequipa

 The cheapest way to get to Arequipa if you’re already


in Lima is taking a bus. The Arequipa bus station is a
little out of town. But you can get a taxi there for about
$5 USD).

 The easiest way to get to Arequipa, if you’re short


on time is by plane, landing in Rodríguez Ballón
airport. Latam, Avianca, Peruvian Airlines and LC
Peru all fly to Arequipa
Main Attractions:

• The ”Plaza de Armas”, the main


square of Arequipa, surrounded by
buildings made of sillar, a white
volcanic stone.

• The Santuarios Andinos Museum. From May to


November the main exhibit is the Ampato’s
Dame, also known as Juanita Mummy.
 Santa Catalina Convent
It’s the most visited building from the
Spanish era of the city. Quite close to the
Plaza de Armas.

• Churches are among the


most beautiful buildings
preserved
 Yanahuara Viewpoint.
One of the most touristic places in
Arequipa. You can see the three
volcanoes Misti, Chachani and Pi

 La Calera thermal bath :


The baths are composed of five thermo-
medicinal pools. The water come from inside
Coltalluni volcane.

 Misti volcano
Many people do some adventured sports
such as trekking or climbing
It’s recommendable to visit the Misti volcano
between the months of April and June when
weather is dry and warm.
Gastronomy
 Arequipa cuisine is one of the most diverse of the country, which present a
variety of dishes such as:

Chupe de Camarones: Shrimp soup with milk,


eggs and oregano.

Adobo: pork marinated with chicha and


spices, cooked in a pot.
 Rocoto Relleno: stuffed bell pepper,
seeded, chopped meat, cheese, milk
and potatoes.

Soltero: salad with cheese, beans,


onions, olives and hot peppers
 Ocopa: boiled potatoes, topped with
cheese sauce, beans, onions, olives
and hot peppers.

Escribano: potatoes salad, red peppers,


vinegar, oil, tomatoes and parsley.
Pebre: soup with lamb or beef.

Dessert

Cheese ice cream:


Vanilla flavor ice cream, named ‘cheese ice
cream’ because of its color and shape, is
made by the local women of a town just
outside Arequipa.
El sanguito
A sweet dish made from wheat, raisins, 'chancaca'
honey (), milk and butter.

TRADITIONAL DRINKS

Good local beer, regional soft drinks or 'chicha de jora'


(made from corn).
Restaurants Local restaurants are called Picanterias. They
are very popular. In neighborhood called
Arancota you can find many of this restaurants.

Zig Zag Arequipa


 This is one of Arequipa’s best restaurants,
winner of a Trip Advisor Certificate of
Excellence in 2012.
 This restaurant is a small and intimate
space that has a rustic charm.
Sol De Mayo

 It’s one of the oldest restaurants in Peru.


Enjoy eating traditional food in charming
gardens and fountains

Chicha

Peru’s most famous chef, Gastón Acurio owns this


place where the menu never veers far from Peru’s
Inca-Spanish roots.

Maycawasi

enjoy the city nightlife.

Las Torres de Ugarte

It’s near to Santa Catalina convent.


This hostel is more expensive than Maycawasi.
This place is one of the best places to stay in
Arequipa for those who want a central location with
good views.
