Artifact #3 Literacy Coaching

Reflection Project

 Together Ms. Eden and I were able to quickly identify a potential solution which was in
helping students build strategies to self regulate their learning. In building a professional
development plan with Ms. Eden, I was able to test my own expertise by modelling for her
new skills that I have learned this semester. Observing Ms. Eden effectively implement the
skills that I passed on to her was a testament to my knowledge gained in the field of
literacy coaching. This literacy coaching experience allowed me to take all the learning
from the course work and text books and implement an ideal coaching situation with a
gracious teacher who accepted my suggestions and grew in her own instructional
practices.
 Initially, I believed that I was not suited to coach other adults. By necessity of having to go
outside of my comfort zone this semester, specifically with this class regarding projects that
required me to coach adults, I learned that I am capable of taking on that role. My
confidence has grown as I experienced the joy of sharing planning with other teachers. My
belief that a coach tells others what to do has shifted as I have learned to appreciate that
literacy coaches can be facilitators, and important resources in their school. I appreciate
moving forward in this role in partnership with colleagues.
