Learning Objectives:

At the end of the session the participants are expected to


have a thorough understanding of the content of Module
4. More specifically, the participants should be able to:
1. Familiarize themselves with the learning standards and
expected learning outcomes covered by Module 7 –
Beginning the Journey Where I Am;
2. Acquaint themselves of the different activities
included in the modules; and
3. Simulate how the module should be administered
using varied suggested activities.

Key Understanding/s

 In this module, the learners will immerse


themselves in activities that will help them
identify key areas that are important in planning
for their life and profession.
 The knowledge and skills that the learners will
gain from this module will help them achieve
their life and career goals by assessing their
current situation in life through a SWOT
Analysis.

The true purpose of the strong is to promote greater
strength in the weak, and not to keep the weak in that state
where they are at the mercy of the strong. – Chistian D. Larson
Patience, perseverance, and a burning desire that
constantly needs to be fueled in the process of reaching ones
goal. The quest for the realization of your dreams is like
waging a momentous battle during which you might encounter
severe setbacks. But success comes to those who turn
adversities into opportunities, overcome their limitations and
bounce back with renewed vigor.

SWOT is usually used in the
industrial/business industry which is very
effective in their business analysis that would
lead a business success. In this case, SWOT is
used to analyze career development pathing to
help the learner to lead their successful career
goal/journey. Having career goals helps provide
direction and focuses your attention on attainable
outcomes of the educational process.

Knowing where you are going with your


academic program, in terms of clear goals, helps
stimulate and maintain motivation. Motivation has
been shown to be a critical component of
academic success. Therefore, clarifying your
career goals can result in immediate as well as
long-term gain (Groccia, 1992).

The concept of self-efficacy is the
focal point of Albert Bandura’s social
cognitive theory (1997).
According to Bandura (1997), the level and
strength of self-efficacy will determine: whether
coping behavior will be initiated; how much effort will
result; and how long the effort will be sustained in
the face of obstacles.

in one’s capabilities to organize
and execute the courses of action
required to produce given
attainments.

self-efficacy is derived:
 Personal Performance - Accomplishments-previous
successes or failures (most influential)
 Vicarious Experience - Watching others, modeling,
mentoring
 Verbal Persuasion - Verbal encouragement or
discouragement
 Physiological and Emotional Factors - Perceptions of
stress reactions in the body

It is important to understand the
distinction between Self Esteem and Self
Efficacy in career planning. According to
Bandura (1992):

 Self esteem relates to a person’s sense of self


worth.
 Self efficacy relates to a person’s perception of
their ability to reach a goal.

Synthesis

As we journey towards our career, we see the road is


long, and is rough. There are times it seems hard to find
strength enough. But through it all, the ups and downs we
learn to smile despite the frowns.
We learn to share our joy and pain, to share without
expecting gain.
We learn to give a helping hand and how to lean when we
can’t stand. We learn the difference between right and
wrong and to stand for right, and always stand strong.
Through this road is hard and seems so long, it’s how
we find where we belong because its only through life’s
bends and turns that we can truly grow and truly learn.

Synthesis

Life is what we make it. And we can make it beautiful through


human virtues, our outlook becomes more focused and colorful
because we do things with more attention to details.
There are big and small tasks that we perform in our everyday
lives. Many times we fail, but we shall not be discouraged, because it
is all a question of standing up each time and renewing our resolve to
be strong…to be responsible…to make decisions that is appropriate
for us… and to face the consequences of all decisions we made.
Career is a lifetime decision making…we need each other when we
plan to make our lives a better and even best place to live in.
