EMERGING TECHNOLOGY
• 3D Printers are starting to be used in a handful of schools throughout
Nevada.

• Ideas for 3D printing usage:

• Print fossil replicas for science.
• Print out replicas of architecture. (ex: Eiffel Tower)
• Have students design their own “inventions.”
• Students can print out topography maps for Geography

• Teachers can reconstruct complex concept models to teach theoretical

concepts, such as cellular and molecular structures.
• MOD-t 3D Printer (pictured) priced at $299.
INNOVATIVE USES
• Smart Phones and Social Media: while encouraging students to take out their
phones or get on Twitter might sound like the complete opposite of what we
want to do as teachers, many are finding ways to incorporate these things
into their teaching.
• One teacher in Los Angeles encourages students to BYOT (bring your own
technology), where they tweet their thoughts on class videos using proper
hashtags (like #WWII). The tweets are displayed and used as fodder for class
discussions.
• Another class in Alabama uses Twitter to have students tweet questions
about reading assignments to their teacher and classmates.
• Smart phones are used to help with assignments in class and snap photos for
research projects. One school in Illinois equipped students with mobile
phones preloaded with math and science applications to use in class!
