HISTORY: The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent


Societies (IFRC) was founded in 1919 in Paris in the aftermath of World War I. It was
Henry Davison, president of the American Red Cross War Committee, who proposed
forming a federation of these National Societies. An international medical conference
initiated by Davison resulted in the birth of the League of Red Cross Societies, which
was renamed in October 1983 to the League of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies,
and then in November 1991 to become the International Federation of Red Cross and
Red Crescent Societies.
The IFRC vision: To inspire, encourage, facilitate and promote at
all times all forms of humanitarian activities by National
Societies, with a view to preventing and alleviating human
suffering, and thereby contributing to the maintenance and
promotion of human dignity and peace in the world.

The role of the IFRC (MISSION)


The IFRC carries out relief operations to assist victims of disasters, and
combines this with development work to strengthen the capacities of its
member National Societies. The IFRC's work focuses on four core areas:
promoting humanitarian values, disaster response, disaster preparedness, and
health and community care.
HISTORY: Born officially in 1947, but with roots that traces back to the
revolutionary days, the Philippine Red Cross has truly become the premier
humanitarian organization in the country, committed to provide quality life-
saving services that protect the life and dignity especially of indigent Filipinos
in vulnerable situations.
Vision: The PRC will be the foremost
humanitarian organization in the Philippines, in
services provided and number of people
served.
Mission: PRC provides timely, efficient, and
responsive humanitarian services to the most
vulnerable in accordance with the principles
and values of the Red Cross and Red Crescent
Movement.
MISSION: To save lives by providing safe blood
products in a cost effective manner utilizing in
quality management system as a fulfillment o
social responsibility of the Philippine Red Cross a
humanitarian and voluntary service.
VISION: PRC, the leading provider of safe and
Philippine Red Cross quality blood and blood products in the

Goal 1: Significantly reducing the impact of disasters, climate
change, public health emergencies and illnesses on the most
affected families and communities;
Objectives
(1)To develop resilience in communities vulnerable to disasters and
public health emergencies through a sustainable community-based
preparedness and response plan;
(2)To enhance the capacity of the Philippine Red Cross as the most
effective responder during
typhoons, floods, earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides and armed
conflicts;
(3)To improve access to safe and quality blood;
(4) To provide a comprehensive range of humanitarian assistance to
all disaster-affected families within the Philippine Red Cross 30
percent customary share.
Goal 2: Improving health and well-being at the individual, family and
community levels

Objectives
(1) To provide the appropriate intervention services in times of crises;
(2)To train lifesavers, namely: first aiders, lifeguards and emergency
responders for the home, workplace and community; and to provide
access to life-saving services;
(3)To provide women and children with more access to maternal and
child health care;
(4) To scale up prevention and control programs for HIV&AIDS in key
cities throughout the country.
Goal 3: Reducing unnecessary suffering from armed conflict and from
other forms of violence

Objectives
(1)To reduce incidence of IHL violations;
(2)To reach vulnerable groups in armed conflict areas;
(3)To improve the understanding of IHL among various sectors in
particular members of the legal profession, armed forces and the
Philippine Red Cross staff and corps of volunteers;
(4)To uphold respect for the emblem of the Red Cross.
Goal 4: Ensuring that the Philippine Red Cross is a well-functioning
National Society.
Objectives
(1)To increase cooperation with external partners in support of the PRC
priority programs;
(2)To vastly improve the human and financial, resources, operations and
programs through a comprehensive information technology system;
(3)To effectively plan, monitor and implement programs for greater
impact;
(4)To enhance the image of the organization and its fund-raising efforts in
support of capacity building, program development and service delivery,
as well as to attract qualified staff and volunteers;
(5)To create a network of competent, committed and motivated staff and
volunteers who embody the role, values and principles of the Philippine
Red Cross;
(6)To have transparent effective and efficient administration system, with
sound financial and asset management, with clearly delineated roles
between governance and management
