7 Concept of organic farming
Organic farming is a method of crop and livestock production that involves
much more than choosing not to use pesticides, fertilizers, genetically modified
organisms, antibiotics and growth hormones, provide attentive care that
promotes the health and meets the behavioural needs of livestock.

 To develop a sustainable agriculture system for guaranteed

adequate food production in the foreseeable future.
 To develop self-sufficient agriculture system which would rely
as much as possible upon resources from within its own resources.
 To develop an alternative strategy over chemical farming which
would be a guideline for the working of biological processes in
natural eco-systems

 Farmers can reduce their production costs because they do not need to buy expensive chemicals and
fertilizers.

 · Healthier farm workers.

 · They improve plant growth and physiological activities of plants.

 · In the long term, organic farms save energy and protect the environment.

 · It can slow down global warming.

 · There is an increasing consumer are willing to pay more for organic foods.

 · Fewer residues in food.

 · More animals and plants can live in the same place in a natural way. This is called biodiversity.

 · Pollution of ground water is stopped.

REASONS FOR LOWER YIELD

 The productivity of organic farming is typically lower than that of

comparable “conventional” farms. This difference is sometimes debated, but a
recent USDA survey of organic agriculture demonstrates that commercial
organic in the U.S. has a significant yield gap.
CONCLUSIONS:

 We should purchase local agricultural products, particularly

fruits,veggies and crops.

 More subsidy and research funding should be provided for organic

agriculture’

 Organic farming aims to be self sufficient.
