Establishment of FROSIO
 Requirements in the 1980's with QA and QC
systems gave increased requirements for qualified
personell, i.e inspectors of surface treatment
 The Industry agreed to establish a system for
training and certifying inspectors of surface
treatment

– Attend an 80-hours training course, conducted by
a FROSIO approved training body

The certificates have 3 levels depending on

documented relevant experience:

 Level I (white certificate)

 Level II (green certificate)
 Level III (red certificate)

Relevant experience

Work directly connected to:

 Pre-treatment of metallic surfaces

 Application of paint and coatings
 Inspection of such work

Level I - Inspector certificate

 Candidates who have passed the examination,

but do not have any or insufficient relevant
experience.
 An upgrade to level II or level III has to be done
within 5 years

Level II - Inspector certificate

Candidates who have passed the examination,

and have minimum 2 years relevant
experience, but no or less than 2 years
inspection experience

relevant experience, where minimum 2 of these

The certificates have three levels, depending
on relevant experience which is defined as:

Work connected to
o production
o planning or installation of insulation
materials
o inspection of such work

Approval and certification

o The examination papers are corrected by

an independent examiner
o Both examination must be passed
o All documentation must be approved
- documented from employer
o Certificate is issued

Renewal
o The certificate expires after 5 years
o It is the inspectors responsibility to notify the
FROSIO Secretariat in due time
o Renewal can be done directly on your personal page
in the web registration system on www.frosio.no
o For level III, minimum 2 years inspection experience
must be documented in the 5 year period,
preferably by confirmation of employer(s)
o A renewal fee will be required

a theoretical part in 4 hours

and

a practical part in 4 hours

Rules for the examination
You may bring:
o Pencil and/or pen and ruler
o Non-programmable calculator
o Dictionary book (will be checked by the FROSIO
representative)
You may
o Raise your hand to make contact with FROSIO
representative
o Relevant questions and answers will be communicated
to all candidates
o Have small breaks, one person at a time

Rules for the examination
You shall:
• Mark all your papers handed out with candidate
number only. All papers shall be handed to the FROSIO
representative upon completion of the exam
• Sign for handing inn the examination

Rules for practical examination

What to do:
o The candidate starts on the first available station and moves
to next station when finished
o Note! Do not move to next station until it is free
o No more than one candidate per station
o No communication with other candidates
You may:
o Raise your hand for contact with the FROSIO representative
o Have short breaks. One at a time.

What is not allowed
o To communicate with other candidates during
the examination or in lunch break if 2 groups
o Bring or use your mobile phone or smart watch
o Use programmable aids, e.g. electronic dictionary
o Bring notes or other papers with the intention to cheat

Breaking these rules may lead to disqualification and you

may be asked to leave the room!!!!!
o As a consequence, you will not be able to take an new

examination within one year

Theoretical examination
 Maximum score for this examination is 150
points. To pass you must have minimum 100
points (66,6%)
Practical examination
 Maximum score for this examination is 48
points. To pass you must have minimum 32
points (66,6%)

Evaluation theory if 95-99 points

0-94 Points 95-99 Points 100 Points +

Failed New evaluation Passed

If between 95 and 99 points the examination will be

evaluated again, or sent to a second examiner for a new
evaluation

o If between 29 and 31 points, the examination will be

evaluated once more by the examiner to check the
candidates skills
o I cases of doubt, the examination may be sent to a new
examiner for final evaluation.

Appeal

• In accordance with our quality system the

candidate may send a written appeal on
the evaluation of both the theoretical and
practical examination
• The appeal shall be sent to the FROSIO
Secretariat
