Introduction(Why use UL CoMP?

The uplink intra eNB Co-ordinated Multipoint (CoMP) feature improves

average cell throughput and the cell edge performance by taking into account the uplink information
received from neighbor cell antennas

• This feature increases the UL TP and hence also service quality for UEs on the cell edge regions of intra eNB
neighbour cells configured in the CoMP set.

• Receive UEs uplink signal by more than one cell

• Intra eNB CoMP: cells involved in reception of the UE belong to the same eNB (cells are colocated)

• LTE1402: UL inter-cell intra eNB reception + Interference Rejection Combining (IRC), UL SINR
enhancement allows for increased UL throughput on average and cell edge

UL CoMP
• With co-located cells being processed by the same System Module, sharing data among cells is no longer a problem

• UEs in the internal cell boundaries will be received with similar levels by serving and neighbor cell
- Intra eNB UL CoMP is possible within internal cell boundaries

UL CoMP

UL CoMP set consists of three cells. To receive a signal

from the UE in the center of the cell number 2, the eNB uses
only two Rx antennas from the serving cell because in the
cell 1 and 3 signal from this UE is too low. When the UE is
close to cell edge, the eNB combines signal received via
two Rx antennas from the serving cell 2 and two Rx
antennas from the neighbor cell 3 using IRC algorithm.

UL CoMP

Users on the main lobe do not benefit because antenna beam of neighboring cell has poor gain on this
direction

All 3GPP Rel. 8 compliant UEs will benefit from this feature.

When the UE is close to cell edge, the eNB combines signal received
via two Rx antennas from the serving cell 2 and two Rx antennas
from the neighbor cell 3 using IRC algorithm

Users in between cell borders have a good chance to have similar path loss to both cells and benefit from UL
CoMP.

• In LTE1402 Interference Rejection Combining (IRC) algorithm is used for UL reception

• CoMP set
In LTE 1402 cells that can be potentially used for joint UL reception form a CoMP Set
LTE1402 is used with 2Rx antennas, In this up to 2 cells can be selected for UL reception from so called CoMP sets containing up to 3
cells ,Cell selection is performed per TTI based on instantaneous SINR measurements.

CoMP reception can only be done for PUSCH. Other UL physical channels are received by serving cell antennas.

Includes serving cell plus best Intra-eNB neighbor cell

CoMP set can contain up to 3 cells.

Uplink Improved Latency Reaction Timer(ilReacTimer)

Uplink Improved Latency Reaction Timer(ilReacTimer) defines the time in which the UE has to send useful data after either the initial
dummy grant or a previous reception of useful data.

If the Timer expires , the UE will not get dummy grant anymore.

Ranges: 0….2000ms , Steps 5 ms

It defines length of Uplink Improved Latency Reaction Timer (IULRT) , which determine period when UE has UL grant proactively
assigned (even if it has nothing to send).
Described functionally is used to reduce and UL latency – as UE has an UL grant assigned , it doesn't have to request its via
scheduling . As a result reduced latency in ping response among others is expected .

*We can make the TRIAL with different values in different phases
Values: 0 , 5, 10, 20 , 50 , 100 ms

Uplink Improved Latency Reaction Timer(ilReacTimer)

Each time when UE is in RRC connected and there is no data for the UE in UL buffer, the UE is scheduled with
dummy grants by the time defined by ilReactTimer. When it expires , UE will not get any UL Grant intended for UL
proactive scheduling.

LTE1679 – DRX with parallel UE measurement gaps
• With FL15A/TL15A release, there is a possibility to use DRX with parallel UE measurement gaps
(LTE1679)

- LTE1679 - gives a possibility for more energy savings

• If UE is already configured to use DRX Cycles when MG is being established, eNB will ensure a dedicated DRX

• Usage of DRX in parallel with MGs gives an opportunity to achieve longer battery lifetime when compared to
continuous PDCCH monitoring (when LTE1679 is not activated)

DRX and Measurements Gaps

Measurement Gap allocation

• When LTE1679 is activated, eNB ensures that both SR(Scheduling Request) as well as DRX On
Duration are not fully overlapped with MG
- It usually results in MG offset equal to -7 TTIs in reference to DRX Cycle start
• MG is intended to be placed during plausible DRX Sleep time. This will reduce impact of LTE1679 on
DL transmission as during DRX Sleep time, DL transmission is not expected anyway
• eNB ensures that SR is not overlapped with MG as well thus additional impact of LTE1679 on UL
should be negligible
- When it is not possible to find a MG
offset that will not overlap with DRX DRX Cycle DRX Cycle
On Duration, it is allocated in a way
that overlapping is minimized SR
