Study the example situation:

Alex is a bus driver. But now he is asleep


in bed.
So:
He is not driving a bus (he is asleep).
But: ‘He drives a bus’

This is the Present simple tense:


I/We/You/They drive
He/She/(it) drives
 We use the present simple to talk about things in general, we are

not thinking only about the present. We use present tense to say

that something happens all the time or repeatedly, or that something

is true in general.

Note:

It is not important whether the action is happening at the time of

speaking.

Examples:

1. The earth goes round the sun

 We use the present simple when we say how often we

do things.

Examples:

1. I get up at 8 o’clock every morning. (not am getting).

Present Continuous Tense
• We use the present continuous tense when we talk about

something which is happening at the time of speaking.

Examples:

1. Please don’t make so much noise. I am studying

2. Where is Margaret? She is taking a bath

3. Let’s go out now. It isn’t raining any more

4. (at party) Hello, Ann are you enjoying the party?


• Pattern:

(+) s + be (am/is/are) +verb-ing + o/c

(-) s + be (am/is/are) +not + verb-ing + o/c

(?) be ( am/is/are) + s + Verb-ing + o/c


Example:

Please don’t make so much noise. I……….(am/study)

Answer: Please don’t make so much noise. I am

studying

My name is Novianti, but my friends always call me Novi. I was born in
Pasar Wajo on May 8th 1997. I have one brother and two sisters. I am
Butonese. My address at Jalan Sudirman number fourty five.
I get up every morning at 5 am. I take a bath, take breakfast, and I go to
campus on foot, because my home is near from campus. I never late of my
lecture. I have many friends and we always do the task together.
In the afternoon, I do my homework from the lecturer, and sometimes do
jogging with a friend. At night I practice and learn my vocabulary in medical
terms, although my skill in medical terms is very poor, but I like about
medical because it makes me interesting for learn. I hope so much. In my
future I want to be a professional doctor.
