MEET JOEL

• Joel is in 2nd grade and has a commutation disorder and CP, some
characteristics Joel has are:
• Voice disorder: is the atypical production of voice quality, pitch, and/or loudness.
• Fluency disorder: is the atypical flow of verbal expression, characterized by impaired
rate and rhythm, such as stuttering.
• Semantic Disorder: difficulties in vocabulary, retrieving a word when it is needed, or
multiple meanings and figurative language.
• Secondary Language Disorder: generally influenced by cognitive abilities(cp)
• Family history: He’s dad has fluency disorder, his dad tens to stutter when talking to
him for a longer amount of time.

SUGGESTIONS

• Graphic Organizer: For students who have difficulty planning their writing, a graphic
organizer can help them plan their thoughts.
• Reading Guide: Some students have difficulty tracking the lines when they are
reading. A reading guide is a piece of paper with a thin layer of highlighted film
either at the top or in the middle. Students can use this to highlight the current line
they are reading so they do not lose their place.
• Talking Calculator: This special type of calculator reads the numbers or symbols that
students enter in. This ensures that students avoid errors by entering numbers
incorrectly. It can also read the answer aloud to students.
• Audio Recorder: Allows student to record audio material.
• Brail: Brail books can be used for the students that are blind
