The 2017 season of the Burger King National Secondary Schools' Debating Competition is
focused on establishing the art of debating as an exciting form of self expression and medium
for conflict resolution for Jamaica's youth.

NEW EXCITING FEATURES:

New inspiring slogan - "Challenge the present; change the future, through debate.”
More national visibility among teenagers and general public via televised broadcast of national
round through to finals.
Exciting prizes!
Expertly trained adjudicators!
Inclusion of more relevant and current topics for debate to awaken participant and general
public interest. For example issues related to entertainment, governance, social media, fashion,
education, public health etc.
Renewed social media engagement and coverage!
Ongoing press coverage via weekly full page pictorial and editorial of matches.
Including "Creative Expression Debates" competitions at each match to illustrate that debating
can be done through music (rap, deejay, song) and poetry. This will be complemented by a
visual debate component, where winners are selected at the end of the competition.
Inclusion of trivia questions on current affairs with spot prizes at each match.
