HOW IT BEGINS?

The Inti Raymi was made to worship the "Apu Inti" (Sun God) also
known in certain sectors as "Apu P'unchau" (God Day).
LOCATION
It is celebrated by many indigenous communities in
the ancient inca territory, as:
• In Ecuador
• Colombia
• Perú.
THE CEREMONY / RITUAL
Is an Inca and Andean ceremony held in honor of Inti (the sun god). It was a ritual to
legitimize imperial control over the people.
The new fire ceremony. In this part of the ceremony the order of the Inca was fulfilled to put
out the fire in all the kitchens of Cusco and surroundings with the purpose of lighting the new
fire that was distributed from a bonfire to all the stoves of the city.
HISTORY
The Inti Raymi (Fiesta del Sol) is an ancestral celebration of the Andean
peoples. The ritual begins with the sunset of the longest night of the
year, June 23, date considered before the solstice. Its meaning is to ask
the Sun to come back to Earth, starting the summer.
THE COSTUMES / CUSTOMS
Inca costumes, mostly made with sheep wool, alpaca,
etc.
FOOD
It is the pambamesa or community food, where the tumin or food
present stands out. The entire community collaborates mainly with
grains such as mote, corn, crab, potatoes, chickens, guinea pigs and
drinks.
MUSIC
• - Before the chosen women worshiped their god with sweet voices
• - Before Andean songs were sung in Quechua to worship the sun god.

• The festival of the sun is a very beautiful celebration, because come

HOW TO GET THERE?
First visit the Temple of the Sun, the main religious center of the
Incas dedicated to the solar cult. According to the chroniclers, the
walls are completely covered with gold. From here we go by bus to
visit the four ruins less than 8 km from Cusco, where the ceremony
is done.
RECOMENDATIONS
FOR TOURIST
1.- Make sure with your income. - If you want
to be comfortable, the Inti Raymi is a party in
