Attach rate/connect rate in IBP

Rainer Moritz, Product Manager IBP Demand, SAP SE

May 2017
Attach rate in IBP

• Attach rate functionality can be modeled within IBP

• There are several possibilities how to setup this modeling according to the customer needs
• Example: Maintain attach rates on level Product-Location or Product-Customer or Product-
Country or …

• In this session an example modeling is setup:

• “Attach-rate like” BOM: product/location specific and time dependent single level BOM

General Assumptions and Remarks

• Only single level BOM supported in this example

• In case multi level BOMs exist, the multilevel BOM need to be “exploded”
• Attach Rate defined for base UoM of all involved products
• Different base UoMs are supported
• BOM relation is product + location specific in this example. Location is just one possibility – could
also be customer etc…
• This BOM ratio key figure is often called “Attach Rate” or “Connect “Rate”
• BOM ratio is time dependent
• BOM ratio is a key figure which is an important part of the planning process and is no fix master
data info
• “Header” product is not relevant for Supply, IO etc.

Example of BOM explosion: usage of multi-level BOMs

Prod 1
*2 *1

Prod 2a Prod 2b

*2 *1 *2 *4 2-level BOM is exploded outside IBP,

e.g. in HCI
Prod 3a Prod 3b Prod 3c Prod 3d

Prod 1
Single-level BOM is loaded into IBP and used
for planning.
*4 *2 *2 *4 Intermediate products Prod 2a and Prod 2b
Prod 3a Prod 3b Prod 3c Prod 3d are not used in planning at all

SAP6BOM5 – Example Data with location specific split factors

Initial location specific example ratio could look like

• Two PCs as “Header” products: PC1, PC2 this:
• These two PCs have the following

components: HD_DC_US_E, HD_DC_FR:
HD_DC_US_W,
• CPU: CPU1, CPU2, CPU3 HD_DC_CA_E:

• HDD: HDD1, HDD2 PRDID CMPPRDID BOMRATIO PRDID CMPPRDID BOMRATIO

SAP6BOM5 – Creating the BOM relation ship

So called “planning objects” need to be created:

Example: SAP6BOM5 in Excel

Note: the attach rates are different between CW04 and

CW05 for the CPUs
The attached rates can be changed in Excel as needed

Propagation of “Header” Product demand for PC1 of

100 to all relevant components according to Attach
Rate

SAP6BOM5 – Open points

• How can the customer use existing PDS/PPMs/??? and generate the required single level BOM
ratio data?

• Which planning needs do exist for the attach rate key figure?
• How to forecast attach rates?
• Are the attach rates of the past available and accessible in IBP?
