• A public space: The site, currently free of programme, provides spatial relief within a very dense urban fabric and
has become a meeting place. It is suggested that a significant part of the proposed use could be maintained as a
public space.
IFTAR DINNER
During the holy month of Ramadan, two meals are served: one is the Sehri which is
served before dawn. The meal usually consists of wholesome and filling foods so that
you can stay hungry throughout the day. The second meal is called Iftar which is served
after sunset. It is during this time when the popular streets among various cities in the

The culture of Lucknow is still very much alive and retains its old world charm even today. Popularly known as the City of
Nawabs, Lucknow is famous for its traditional cuisine, fine arts and the most courteous people you will ever find in India.
Lucknow People
The people of Lucknow are among the warmest and the most courteous people in India. They are known to be very soft
spoken. The place has a rich cultural heritage and is known to be the city of Nawabs.
Language and religion
Basically, the people of Lucknow make use of Urdu for mutual conversation. Though the Urdu is an official language of
Lucknow but Hindi is also most common here. Other main languages of Lucknow are Bhojpuri, Koshali, Awadhi, Braj and
Koeli.
In Lucknow, the major section of the people consists of Hindus but Islam is also equivalently prevalent in this capital city.
Christians are also there in Lucknow but in very less number.
Lucknow Music and Dance
Music of Lucknow is really superb having great influence of ancient traditions. Lucknow is world-wide famous its classical
and folk music as well as dance.

Lucknow has traditionally been a sports-loving city. In the past pehlwani, kabbadi, chess, kite flying, pigeon flying, and

Dr. Achala Nagar Wajahat Mirza (writer of Mother India and Ganga Jamuna), Amritlal Nagar, Ali Sardar Jafri and K. P.
Saxena have enriched Indian Cinema.
WHY RIFA-E-AAM CLUB
Rifa-e-aam club changed the course of literature in 1936. It was a hub of cultural activities
for people from all walk of life. Raised during the 1830s by the Nawabs as a spot for
holding events to bring ‘rifa’( happiness ) to all, including ‘aam’( common man ). The club
begin the emblem of defiance as it was established for the use of common Indians during
British time. Integrating the spirit of the building existence with literary activities would put
the building to its best use. Today it is hard to walk past the premises, which is the birth
place of Progressive Writers Association.
The site has lot of potential as once it was a writers hub. It is located in the Kaisarbagh area
which lacks in any recreational spaces or gathering space of any sort for the major
residential area surrounding it. It gives scope for different cultures and communities to
come together and celebrate.
Like culture and art, recreation, leisure and sports activities play an important role in
communities. Their many benefits include improving the health and well-being of
individuals, contributing to the empowerment of individuals, and promoting the
development of inclusive communities.
DESIGN CONCERNS
People have been devoid of spaces to perform and enjoy recreational activity, turning them towards the only open space, roads
creating hassle, congestion and chaos.

1. Providing people with a dedicated space which can be used for daily recreational purpose and for the occasional large
community gathering events.

2. Provision for a proper parking space to divert the buses and other transportation means currently using the site.

3. Creating a platform that will enhance the social culture of the community.
