Overview & Background
This Training is

 Intended for DLI Teachers.

 Emphasizing on ILR Descriptors/Scales, THE BASE LEVELS 1,2,3, and plus level
1+,2+ .

 Concentrating on Receptive Part of Second Language Acquisition (Reading &


Listening).

 Defining the Diagnostic Assessment Protocol & steps in conducting DA interview.

 Providing the Forms used at DLI for writing the final DA report and recommendations
Deliverables
This is a four module project as listed to assist faculty in the
process of Diagnostic Assessment.

 Module One ----- ILR Familiarization (Reading)

 Module Two ----- ILR Familiarization (Listening)

 Module Three --- DA Protocol & Forms

 Module Four ----- Self-Assessment & Practice


Learning Theories
 Behaviorism
Stimulus  Response  Reinforcement
Text  Assigning ILR level  Review and Practice

 Cognitivism
Conceptualization through receiving, organizing, storing and retrieving the
information
Trainees retrieve what they learned and incorporate it with their
background knowledge in the use of ILR to assign levels

 Social Cognitivism ( Albert Bandura)


Training + providing models  increase self-efficacy to use ILR and select
level-appropriate material

 Conducted on the prototype M1

 Pre and post-test questionnaires were given

 Level one usability test was conducted

 Analysis of the collected data

 Statistically significant results


Challenges

 Technical challenges because the captivate does not support


Arabic language. Therefore, all the passages were embedded as
images. This might affect the clarity of the reading passages.
 Selecting volunteer audience for formative evaluation might be
challenging, as they might just do it for your sake without having
an interest or even concentrating on the items in the
questionnaire, this will affect the quality of data collected.

Accomplished

 Module One was developed during the IST526 class


 Formative Evaluation was conducted on the Module One
(prototype) during IST 622 class
 Draft design for the Module Three was developed
 In addition, the Home page/slide was designed
 The home page/slide was linked to the forms that will be
uploaded to “OneDrive”.
 Capstone Instructional Design Document is 65.25%
accomplished.
Still need to do
 Revision of Module One to implement the recommendation
provided by the Advisors and also from the volunteers that
participated in the formative evaluation.
 Developing Module Two.
 Completing the development of Module Three.
 Completing the development of Module Four.
 Consolidating All the Modules together.
 Completing the other requirements for The Graduate
Capstone.

 Plan your project early


 Start early
 Bepatient it might take hours to fix a
simple issue
 Don’t hesitate to ask
