Fluoroscopy
 Fluoroscopy is type of medical imaging that show real
time x-ray image , most like a x-ray movie.
 Fluoroscopy is a method of obtaining real time image
that is especially use for guiding variety of diagnostics
and interventional procedure.
 Ability of fluoroscopy is to display motion is provided
by a continuous series of image.
 In this x-ray is passes through the body.
 Study of inner movement
body structure and it is
similar to x-ray.
 Fluoroscope is also a
imaging tool which allow
physician to look at the
varies body system.
 It show continuous x-ray
image.
 It take continuous stream
of x-ray image approx.
25 to 30 image per second.
• Image are view on monitor.
Fluoroscopy use
 Used in variety of procedure
1. Orthopedic surgery:-observe fracturse and healing
bones.
2. Blood flow studies :-view blood flow to organs.
3. Catheter insertion:- Direct catheter
placement(angiography/angioplasty).
4. Barium X-ray:-Observe movement through GI tract.
5. Locating Foreign body.
1. Treating Fractures in
spinal cord.
2. Injection into joint
or spine and knee.
3. It is also used for
cancer detection.
4. Gastrointestinal
imaging.
5. neurosurgery.
6. Otolaryngology(ear ,
nose , throat)
Barium x-ray
 Fluoroscopy uses
It gives physician to
see movement in the
intestines.
• In this Barium moves
through them during
procedure.
Cardiac catheterisation
 Fluoroscopy uses
It is used to detect blockage
in the arteries.

• Physician can see flow of

blood
Fluoroscopy procedure
 Insertion of into intravenous catheter patient hand or
arm.
 Patient moved onto a x-ray table.
 X-ray scanner is used to create fluoroscopic image of
of the body.
 Dye may be injected on that point.
 Type of care is decided after procedure.
Image intensifier
 Image intensifier is a complex electronics device that
receive image-forming x-ray beam and convert it into a
visible light image of high intensity.
 Within a image intensifier , input phosphor convert
the x-ray photon into a light photon , which are then
convert into a photoelectron with photocathode.
Image intensifier
 Through this process , several thousand light photon
produce for each x-ray photon reaching the input
phosphor.
 Mostly cesium iodide is use , because it has a high
absorption efficiency.
Image intensifier tube
 Image intensifier tube is approx. 50 cm long.
 Potential difference is 2500v is maintain in the tube
between photocathode and anode so that the electron
produce by the photoemission will be accelerated to
the anode.
