This document describes the design of a regulated power supply circuit. It includes a transformer to step down the AC input voltage, a full-wave rectifier using four diodes to convert to DC, a filter to smooth the output waveform and reduce ripples, and an LM317 voltage regulator to maintain a constant 8V output even with changes in input voltage, current load, or temperature. The circuit was simulated using Multisim software and output waveforms were analyzed using an oscilloscope to verify the conversion of AC to DC and regulation of voltage.

advantages of being portable and ripple free, but the voltage produced are low. (suitable to use).
An ordinary DC power supply and voltage
regulating device are the combination of rectifier-filter.
The DC voltage from an ordinary power
supply is continually as AC main voltage or load is not changed. Basic power supply is constituted by four elements -transformer -rectifier -filter -voltage regulator
• Objective is to design and implement regulated power
supply circuit for application chosen.
• Multisim software was intended use to create the power
supply circuit and analyse the waveform by using the oscilloscope. THEORY REGULATED POWER SUPPLY Embedded circuit Maintain output voltage/current at constant value (AC to DC) •TRANSFORMER
Convert input voltage to higher/lower output voltage Step-down transformer (in this assignment) Formula : RECTIFIER Input = output of transformer Full-wave rectifier (4 diodes) Formula : Vm (after rectification) = Vm (before rectification) – 1.4V •FILTER
Smoothen the waveform of the output voltage that contain ripples Formulas : Voltage Regulator Changes – input AC voltage, load current, temperature Maintain output voltage even if changes occur LM317 RESULT ASSUMPTION OF VALUE • Input Voltage : • Maximum ripple factor : 3.0 % • Regulated output voltage : 8V • Maximum load current : 25mA
• Transformer used: 3N250
• Load Resistor : 1000k • R1 Resistor : 280 Simulation of regulated power supply circuit Waveform of AC input Voltage of AC input Output waveform after rectification Output waveform after filter DC output waveform DC Output voltage and DC output current DISCUSSION LM317 – because can adjust the output voltage Straight line in oscilloscope - converted to DC - sine waveform have been rectified - ripple factor reduced to 3% Components of standard values and commercial use - limitation (non-ideal value) Full-wave rectifier -able to convert +ve and –ve signals - lower ripple factor, higher efficiency CONCLUSION • Successfully designed a regulated power supply for battery charger. • Know the importance to choose the suitable components for the circuit to maintain stable connection and low ripple factor. • Choosing suitable IC to maintain a constant value of output voltage.
