ABSTRACT
 Wind pumps are used when electricity is not
available. In this paper, it is described the detail design
and development, experimentation of wind power
water pump mechanism which is today’s need for rural
development .In further paper, the objective is to
implement the design concept for the rural
development. This project deals with the development
of wind powered water pump system. Wind is a
natural and renewable resource that is freely available
all over the world. A horizontal axis windmill with 3
rotor blades is chosen due to better rotor balance with
a maximum pump head to overcome other barriers to
motion such as friction.
Statement of research problem
 Energy today has become ultimate need of world.
Today every application which has been develop in the
world require energy supply for its functioning but
population of the world is increasing causes
tremendous pressure on the energy and mineral
resources leading to their exploitation.
AIM
 Lifting the water without using electricity and fossil fuel.
 Setup must be non-polluting and less noise operation.
 Setup cost should be less and maintenance free, one time
investment is preferable.
 The design of the new system which operate when
electricity is off.
 No conventional fuel use like petrol, diesel, gas etc.
 Eco friendly
 Handling must be easy
 It is having Higher efficiency
 Easy to conveyance
OBJECTIVE
 Learn about current system
 Learn about fabrication process
 To design and fabricate working model
Introduction
Today, wind power has the potential to
reduce the amount of carbon dioxide and
related greenhouse gases that contribute to
global warming.
As an energy source, wind is free and does
not need to be imported from other
countries. This is an extremely important
advantage of wind power since many
countries are dependent upon foreign
providers for a large present of their fossil
fuels.
WORKING PRINCIPLE

 Windmill is a simple device which works using the

energy of the flowing wind. Windmill essentially
consists of a structure silmilar to a large electric fan
that is erected at some height on a rigid support.
Huge blades are rotated with the moving wind.
 The number of blades, their shape and the height of
the windmill from the ground are decided on the
basis of wind velocity and other environmental
factors.
 The blades of a windmill are designed to create a
pressure between its different regions when wind
strikes them. This difference in pressure makes the
blades to rotate.
WORKING PRINCIPLE

 These blades are connected to a long rod having a U

shaped bend at the other end. The U shaped bend of
the rod is connected to the rod of water pump.
 During the air movement, as the wheels are rotated,
the crank rod moves up and down and
simultaneously the rod of water pump also moves up
and down. The up and down motion of the pump rod
would lift the water from ground.

 Topic Selection

 Search for research papers

 List out components

 Select proper axis for wind turbine (horizontal Axis is Preferable)

 Machining the parts

 Testing & report writing

COMPONENTS REQUIREMENTS

WIND TURBINE BLADE

BEARING
SHAFT
 CRANCK
CONNECTING ROD
 PUMP
STRUCTURE
ADVANTAGES
Wind is free energy.
Works with out electricity
If we don’t want to use water pump, we can use wind turbine to
generate electricity.
Maintenance cost is low
APPLICATIONS
 Most useful when power is not available
CONCLUSIONS
 Horizontal axis has the main rotor shaft running
horizontally and if the rotor must be oriented in the
direction of the wind and shaft is coupled with a
Dynamo with motor.
 We can generate the electricity individually and we can
save it to battery.
FUTURE SCOPE
 With the help of college, we can actually implement
this project on real application. The prototype is just
understanding the project working..
 We can add Solar panel also which can be very helpful
in future for handling such kind of problem
