IDIOMS
• What is an idiom ?
An idiom is a phrase or
sentence in which simple
words are used to convey
a special meaning.
Example of Idioms:
• A black sheep : a- good-for-nothing
person.
e.g. Hilmi always causes trouble in his
family. He is a black sheep in the family.
• A snake in the grass : a secret enemy
e.g. I thought she was my friend until she
betrayed me. Only then did I know that
she was a snake in the grass.
• Apple of the eye : someone dearly loved
e.g. He is the apple of his mother’s eye.
• To lend a hand : to help
e.g. My car has broken down. Can you lend
me a hand?
• To rain cats and dogs : rain very heavily
e.g. It was raining cats and dogs this morning.
