WHAT IS INEQUALITIES IN INCOME ?

 is the unequal distribution of household or

individual income across the various
participants in an economy.
It is often presented as the percentage of
income related to a percentage of the
population.
 is the difference found in various
measures of economic well-being among
individuals in a group, among groups in a
population, or among countries.
WHY IT IS CONSIDERED A PROBLEM ?

Because there’s actually enough jobs for all

but there is not enough number of qualified
individuals, due to lack of education
induced by limited income.
Also, if ever there are jobs, salary rates
among regions differ, even if prices of
commodities is the same everywhere. In
some places, minimum wage is about Php
250 (about $5 USD) per day.
WHY IT IS CONSIDERED A PROBLEM ?

people in the middle class who have

Bachelor Degrees and are employed can
afford the simple luxuries and are able to
maintain certain lifestyles but they suffer
high income taxes. That is 32% of their
monthly income which is 2% higher
compared to what is taxed on corporations.
POSITIVE & NEGATIVE EFFECTS
(ON THE ECONOMY)

Inequality Drives Growth - Rising levels

of income inequality often correlate with
income growth.
Inequality Increases Crime - The single
factor most closely and consistently
related to crime
POSITIVE & NEGATIVE EFFECTS
(ON THE ECONOMY)

Inequality Increases Fairness - Income

inequality is often associated with the
idea of "fairness".
Inequality Decreases Education -
Unequal Societies tend to under invest in
education.
POSITIVE & NEGATIVE EFFECTS
(ON THE ECONOMY)

Rising levels of economic inequality often

correlate with economic growth. In 1979,
the Chinese government introduced several
new programs designed to stimulate the
economy.[9] Soon afterward, the Chinese
GDP annual growth rate rapidly increased
from 5.3% in 1979 to over 15% in 1984.
POSITIVE & NEGATIVE EFFECTS
(ON THE ECONOMY)

 The apparent correlation between

economic growth and wealth disparity is
the economic expansion the United States
experienced in the years prior to 2008. This
period coincided with increasing rates of
income inequality. Inequality fell between
2007-2008, during the economic recession.
Then, as the U.S. economy recovered from
the recession, so did rates of income
inequality.
SOLUTIONS OF THE GOVERNMENT

1. Create jobs by investing in infrastructure,

developing renewable energy sources,
renovating abandoned housing and
significantly increasing affordable housing
investments, and making other common sense
investments to revitalize neighborhoods. It can
lower inequality while creating more
opportunity and growth.
SOLUTIONS OF THE GOVERNMENT

2. Reduce the rate at which high-income

taxpayers can take tax deductions, increase
tax to close the “tax gap” (the difference
between what’s owed and what’s paid.
3. Ensuring that programs such as
unemployment insurance are there for
more workers if they lose their job.
SOLUTIONS OF THE GOVERNMENT

4. Improve job quality and strengthen families

by raising the minimum wage. Enacting basic
labor standards such as fairer overtime rules,
paid sick and family leave, and right to request
flexible and predictable schedules.
SOLUTIONS OF THE GOVERNMENT

5. Invest in human capital by expanding

access to high-quality and affordable
childcare and early education; creating
pathways to good jobs such as
apprenticeships, national service
opportunities, and a national subsidized
jobs program.
