Vega E - when versatility sets the pace

VUS, the LOx-Methane upper stage of Vega E will increase

largely the versatility, reducing multiple satellite pairing
constraints due its ability to significantly change orbital plane. E

For the payload class larger than 400kg , Vega E will assure more
than 75% of the market in dual payload configuration and more
than 40% in triple payload mission. With more than 3ton in SSO,
will cover 95% of the market in single payload configuration.

Versatility is a premium for Vega E.

For instance, for a typical constellation deployment scenario:

Vega C Vega E.
• First satellite cluster release [kg] 350 1000
• Di [change of orbital inclination] 5 10
• Second satellite cluster release [kg] 350 1000

Vega Space System:
• Periodic IOD/IOV charter to Low Earth Orbit.
• Download to airstrip of orbital payloads up to 800kg
through Space Rider (developed with Italian partnership).
• Constellation satellite deployment to Final anomaly.
• Significant Orbital Transfer or Orbital Plane Change of
single or multiple Payloads.
• Long orbital life and deorbiting for non separated
Payloads.
• Extended Orbital Experience, enabling payload to drive
AVUM bus.

SSMS – Some insights

SSMS is the gateway to space for worldwide customers, a

combination of commercial and institutional payloads. The
first mission will take place in 2018 to carry a bunch of
satellites requiring a competitive, reliable and accurate
access to the destination orbit.

SSMS is based on a modular dispenser designed for both the

Vega launcher and its more performing evolution Vega C.

SSMS dispenser can accommodate all classes of small

satellites with mass ranging from 1 kg (Cubesats or Cubesat
clusters) to 400 kg (Minisats); coupled with Vega’s upper
stage AVUM, it can deliver PLs in multiple orbital planes
through an extended orbital experience.

Vega opens a world of opportunities for Space
Economy:
• for In Orbit Testing, Demonstration, Servicing, it
enables low cost round trip to space and allows
any player to make true good ideas without the
need and the burden of being rocket scientists
or satellite manufacturer. SSMS missions are in
search of small payloads to be orbited!
• Science and Exploration. Vega has carried so far
many scientific payloads critical for knowledge,
as gravitational waves experiments. VSS will
enhance European capability for solar system
exploration missions.

• Deployment and maintenance of large
