LAW OF DEPENDENT
ORIGINATION
Paticca-Samuppada
 One of the most insightful teachings of Siddhartha
 A short formula for this principle can be read in four lines as:
When this is, that is;
This arising, that arises;
When this is not, that is not;
This ceasing, that ceases.
DEPENDENT ORIGINATION
twelve-linked chain that explicates how all things are inter-connected,
how error and attachment to error occur and how of the chain is untangled.
IMPERMANENCE OF
THINGS
 Impermanence- an unavoidable fact of human existence
 Five uncontrollable processes of any individual
 Old age
 Sickness
 Dying
 Decay
 Death
 When one is released from Samsara (reincarnation), a being escapes all
these phenomena
 When one achieves nirvana, a person’s mind is at perfect peace.
 Arhat- one who achieves nirvana or “one who is worthy of honor”
