Language And The Brain
Language analyze the structure of language and propose
models which account for the linguistic phenomena which
they observe. However, it is one of the questions pursued by
psycholinguistics, and the answers to it cannot help but
enlighten the soulutions to other linguistics promblems.
Because the human brain is complex and our knowledge of its
inner workings is extremely limited, there are many aspects of
brain function which are nor undrestood at this time.
Aries Of Language Acquisition

Throughout this book, language is both complex and

systematic. It is composed of phonology,
morphology, and so on-each of which contains sets
of rules and elements those rules. Imitation theory
claims that children learn language by listening to the
speech them and reproducing what they hear.
According to this theory, language acquisition is a
memorizing the words and sentences of some
language.
Innateness Of Thesis

The active construction of a grammar theory asserts

and that language ability is innate that is humans are
genetically predisposed to learn and use language
(though not any language of course).
Eric Lenneberg. He has studied animal behavior and
has developed a list of which are typical of innately
determined behaviors.
Acquisition Of Phonology

The age of six months or so, normal children in all

cultures begin to babble, producing long of vowels
and consonants. Though babbling is far from being a
true language, it revers adult language in a number of
important respects. For one thing, babbled sequences
are inked to immediate biological needs like food or
physical comfort, and are thus frequently in isolation
for sheer pleasure. Moreover, babbled sequences
have many physical characteristics of adult speech.
Acquisition Of Morphology And
Syntax
The age of 12 months that a child will begin to
consistenly produce words of learning.
Two Word Stage is Approximately 18 and 24 months
of age, children begin to use two-word utterances. At
many seem to be simply two one-word sentences
produced one right after the onther. Only word order
is used to express these semantic relations; are
additional syntatic devices added to the basic word
order rules.
The Acquisition Of Word Meaning

When children hear a word for the first time, they

have no way of knowing what makes the uses of the
word appropriate. Consider the plight of the nursery-
school pupil who played softball in school one day.
Amplexive Concepts are used to single out classes of
objects with something in common. For example, the
word chair is used appropriately with desk chairs,
rocking, easy chairs, and so one use all of these
things can be sat on.
How Adults Talk To Young Children

When people talk to one another their general is to

get listeners to understand what they are going.
Speakers depend on their listeners being cooperative
and listening when they are spoken to but the
listeners are children, adult speakers normally have to
work a bit harder. They use Attention-getters to tell
children
Adult Language Processing
Much of the research on adult normal processes of the of the
last twenty or thirty years has focused on three areas : word
recognition, syntactic analysis and interpretation.
Word Recognition
An initial step in understanding any message is the recognition
of words. Additionally, the recognition of a word provides
information that determines the syntatic structure of the rest of
the sentences.
Errors In Speech Production And
Perception
When we investigate the nature of language carefully,
we sometimes make some surprising discoveries.
This fact is at odds with our common sense; we feel
that words and sentences are composed of discrete
parts. It could well be that our common sense is
simply wrong here ( for, after, all, common, sense
also tells us that earth is flat and stationary )
Slips Of The Tongue (Production
Erros)
By “ slipsof the tongue” we mean any inadvertent
flaws in a speaker’s use of his or her language. These
mistakes can provide evidence for many of the
linguistics constructs we have been discussing
throughout this course. This units can be of various
sizes-some, surprisingly, even smaller that a single
sound!
