• 1. What techniques are used by the teacher of
bilingual class for 10th grade MIA 5 at MAN 1 Malang
in teaching reading?
• 2. What kinds of reading materials and instructional
media are used by the teacher of bilingual class for
10th grade MIA 5 at MAN 1 Malang in teaching
reading?
• 3. How are students’ perception toward the
techniques of teaching, the material selected, and
media used in teaching reading?
1.3 Objectives of the study
To answers the problems of the
study
1.4 Definition of the Key Term
• Reading: is a process where readers decode (figure out
how to pronounce) each word in a text and then
automatically comprehend the meaning of the words, as
they do with their every day spoken language
(Schoenbach et al,. 2012, p.38)
• Teaching Reading: is a process of studies focuses on
how readers use their knowledge and reasoning to
understand texts (Pang et al., 2003, p.14).

• Bilingual class: bilingual is the use of two different
languages in classroom as the instruction (Encyclopedia
of Children’s Health).
• X MIA 5 : is one of bilingual classroom for X Graders
which consists of 35 students (by the English teacher in
bilingual class).
• MAN 1 Malang: one of the Islamic senior high school in
Malang, which is located at Jalan Baiduri Bulan No.40
