INTRODUCTION
National Institute of Science & Technology

BRAKING SYSTEM

 A brake is a mechanical device that inhibits motion by absorbing

energy from a moving system. It is used for slowing or stopping a
moving vehicle, wheel, axle, or to prevent its motion, most often
accomplished by means of friction.

FUNCTIONS OF BRAKING SYSTEM IN AUTOMOBILES

 The braking system is designed to decelerate a moving vehicle.

 A brake system absorbs the kinetic energy of the vehicle

mechanically or electrically in order to decrease its speed

DESCRIPTION OF HYDRAULIC DRUM BRAKES

National Institute of Science & Technology

 Hydraulics is the use of a liquid under pressure to transfer

or motion to increase an applied force and the pressure on
a liquid is called hydraulic pressure.

 The brakes which are operated by the means of hydraulic

pressure are called Hydraulic Brakes.

 Principal on which the hydraulic brakes work is Pascal’s

Law.

IMPORTANCE & POSSIBLE OUTCOME OF THE PROJECT

National Institute of Science & Technology

Importance of the project in engineering aspect:

 Proper design and analysis would help in increasing serviceability during the
brakes working lifetime.

Possible outcome of the project:

 Enhancing the efficiency of brakes with proper design.

 Proper arrangement to improve working of brakes.

 Study of stress and strain induced in the drum and brake pads.

CONCLUSIONS
National Institute of Science & Technology

From the above project we have a thorough idea about the braking system
particularly drum braking system. We learnt how it works practically. We
understood the mechanism behind the entire system. We learnt the function of
different parts and their uses. Beside this we also learnt the use of Creo
software in the designing of 3D modeling and its application in the design of 3D
models. we came to know its usefulness. Prediction and verification of the
results through experimental tests.
